InsideTheU is reporting through multiple sources that new head coach
Manny Diaz has reached out to Hurts. Oddly enough, Hurts only new follow on Twitter is
Manny Diaz. Maybe a tell?
Everyone is noting that Maryland is a heavy contender due to Hurts’ relationship with Terrapin head coach
Mike Locksley. Locksley and Hurts have worked closely during their time together at Alabama. The connection is obvious and a real possibility that the two could reunite for a season as the Locksley Era gets started in College Park.
Jeremy Clark of our TCU site on 247Sports is reporting the Horned Frogs are interested in Hurts. He didn’t directly confirm contact, but Hurts attended TCU camps as a high schooler and his dad still has a relationship with the staff. It’s safe to assume they’ve reached out as well.
Brandon Drumm of our Oklahoma site reported on Wednesday night that the Sooners are “working” to land Hurts. Drumm went on to say that he believed OU would get a visit, listing Houston, Maryland, TCU and FSU as “major players” along with OU.
The Florida State Seminoles are in the market for a graduate transfer quarterback. Noles247 can confirm that Alabama quarterback
Jalen Hurts is a player that
Willie Taggart and his staff are highly interested in and have reached out to.
I can confirm that FSU has met with Hurts’ father during the month of December.
Averion Hurts has been a head coach at Channelview high school in Texas for the past 9 years. I’m not sure if it was
Willie Taggart or one of his assistants, but FSU did meet face-to-face with his father last month, while they were on the road during the contact period. I can also report that Taggart has been on the phone with Hurts' father in the days following the National Championship game on Monday night.
Hurts, who entered his name in the transfer portal after the national championship game, was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman. He will leave Alabama with one year of eligibility and a record of 26-2 as a starting quarterback.
