Only two dudes at Welter I think would win are Porter and Thurman.

Porter would find a way to muck it up. Floyd hates that more than anything. But like he did against Maidana, he would find a way to adjust.

Thurman fight would be a battle of wits and skill but I think Thurman's youth would win him that fight.

:mindblown: run time wouldn't know what's happening with all the pot shots he'll be taking.

Even coming off the Algieri fight, Khan still presents a lot more problems for Floyd than Berto (I think we all know that), but I still don't think he beats Floyd.
His reach and handspeed present a possible problem but that's all he brings...

I honestly can't in anyway see him beating Floyd...Floyd is simply way too smart to lose to one of the dumbest boxers in the sport...This is chess not checkers...Con barely beat Algieri, a counter puncher he cherry picked to look good...I don't even think Con believes he can win, he just wants to get paid...

Dude, unless you're blind or have absolutely no comprehension skills . . there's absolutely no way you can say this and not get a :stopitslime: reaction . . you just don't know boxing?

Why IN THE HELL does he of ALL PEOPLE deserve a shot against Mayweather? What has he done? Stop being a sheep

Stop being a sheep, even if the division sucked that doesn't give you the right to perpetuate well-marketed/well-positioned mediocrity as greatness

Thurman
Kell Brook - even if he hasn't fought the same level of competition that Khan has he has shown to excel at a level that Khan hasn't
Garcia
Porter . .

didn't get knocked out in 5 consecutive fights and started feeling himself a little too much :russ:

Randy Gordon was saying something similar to this Monday night. It's hard for Floyd to sell this to a genuine fan of the sport. And there are more genuine fans than there are Floyd fans.

While floyd had some great selling points as to why he's fighting Berto, like him being a two time FORMER champ. There are guys like Brook and Thurman who are CURRENT champs. I also understand that Floyd can't really come out and say that he's giving Berto a payday or anything like that.

But yeah... don't use the Khan has Garcia problems or Porter needs to avenge his Brook lost. Becuz Berto lost to Soto Karass and got popped for juice for a rematch against Ortiz.

:stopitslime:...this line of thinking is stupid. A genuine fan of the sport is truly that...a genuine fan of the sport. The genuine fans of college football show up and watch spring practice and BS games against Bethune-Cookman. The genuine fan of NFL football will be down at the stadium forking over $25 to park and $8 for a beer to watch a preseason game where the guy whose name is on the back of the jersey he's wearing is standing on the sideline in a t-shirt and sweats. The genuine MLB fan will take a random Tuesday off work to go sit in the mid summer sun to watch an afternoon game against the 5th place team in the division. Only in boxing do the conditions have to be perfect and a perfect opponent matters for so called "genuine fans" to be all in.

No it's not stupid.

You'd have more fans show up for the Seahawks/Patriots than the Seahawks/Browns. Only Floyd stans think him fighting Berto makes sense. And I'll take it that you're a Floyd stan. Why? Becuz you called my line of thinking stupid. I've been around this sport my entire life and you can't make me think for a second that this fight makes more sense fighting Porter, Thurman, Brook, or Khan.

I never mentioned Berto, how much sense the fight makes, or who deserves the fight more. In fact, I was calling the guy you quoted line of thinking stupid.....which it is. Consumers love to disguise themselves as genuine fans. And even if you yourself are a genuine fan, you too are thinking like a consumer. You get too comfortable falling back on the "only Floyd stans" narrative cause its lazy. Some people just love boxing. Some people understand that one of America's last great champions is having his swan song against a former world champion. And contrary to your belief, I'm starting to question how "genuine" of a fan you are. You know why ESPNU or NFL Network replay games that you already know the outcome to or seen before? Because if you like football, you'll watch it regardless. Now your money is your money.....can't tell you how to spend it. But if the conversation comes down to watching the fight and still having a level of intrigue while doing so, then Floyd vs Berto does it for me as a fight fan.

1. I mentioned Berto because your post is pretty much about quality. There is no way in any true fighting fan's mond that they can spin this into a competitive matchup. I don't care how genuine a fan you are, quality matters. The guy he's fighting has lost 3 of last 5 fights and if I'm not mistaken, he's been on his ass in all 3 of those losses.

2. Randy Gordon isn't just a consumer. He's the former New York State Boxing Commissioner. He's a former chief editor of Ring Magazine the cover I'm about to show you is the highest selling Ring Mag in history and he greenlit it...

I would like to believe his opinion menas something.

3. You're right. Some of us do love boxing. But should we not call bullshyt, bullshyt? And by all accounts this is a bullshyt fight when there are more "qualified" fighters. But instead we're getting Floyd really tryna explain to us why he chose Berto over these other guys. "Khan has Garcia problems". "Thurman needs to fight Spence". "Porter is cool but he's too rough".

4. You questioning how genuine a fan I am doesn't bother me.

5. So becuz I call Floyd stans, Floyd stans, that means what exactly?

like ive mentioned before...this is a cherry pick...pure definition of one...floyd is entitled to one..however you can't go around trying to spin this fight as something significant when you have better, more deserving fighters than berto in your division and have told them they have to earn it winning other fights...there's nothing intriguing about floyd fighting berto...this is andre berto :russ:....he's a stupid fighter..hes been with virgil hunter and ive seen no improvement or a change in style thats typical of a virgil hunter fighter (unlike khan and to a smaller extent mares before he left)..this fight's selling point is the fact that floyd MAY hang it up after this..nothing more nothing left

if youre a floyd or berto stan..just keep it 100..you just want to see the fight because you like the fighter..and youre going to pay 75 bucks and enjoy it

i only hope when somebody like manny pacquiao, who is also one of boxing's greatest champions, decides to retire and fights a non factor as his final fight..that too will generate the same level of intrigue as floyd facing andre berto :wow:

The sad part is that it wont. There are rules that apply to other fighters that don't neccessairly apply to Floyd.

You said yourself, "Randy Gordon was saying something similar to this Monday night. It's hard for Floyd to sell this to a genuine fan of the sport.." So whether or not he isn't just a consumer with a boat load of respectable credentials, he's still thinking like a consumer in this instance. After SRR became World Middleweight champion for the last time against Carmen Basilio, his next opponent was a 19-8-1 Bob Young. Unless you're thinking like a consumer, why would Floyd fighting his 22nd World Champion in his final fight after 19 years of undefeated work (after besting the fighter of the previous decade and his boogeyman) be considered garbage if you're a genuine fight fan? Like I said, I can't tell you how to spend your money, so if Floyd can't "sell" this one to you, then so be it. Just don't hide behind the guise of this being a "genuine fans" perspective. There's no perfect opponent for Floyd to "sell" us anymore, so he's selling "history". As much as you want to highlight Berto's struggles, everyone you named got their own. Khan has been slept twice, Porter is 2-1 in his last 3 fights (one being Erick Bone) and was "on his ass" in his last fight. Thurman resume is super light. His best resume wins are a 8 loss Soto Karass, 9 loss Julio Diaz, Ghost, and 6 loss Collazo. All these fighters have warts.

Becuz the guy is 2-3 in his last 5 fights.

As long as you dont hide behind Floyd's bullshyt reasoning for picking Berto over the rest of those dudes.

There's no perfect opponent for Floyd to "sell" us anymore, so he's selling "history".

I don't care about tying or passing Marciano.

As much as you want to highlight Berto's struggles, everyone you named got their own. The same Khan that smoked Luis Collazo who Berto had trouble with. Porter even with his one lost has a better current resume than Berto. And Soto Karass has 9 losses but he has 28 wins. One of those wins against Berto. And you gone call out Thurman for beating Ghost when he smacked Berto up?

But for whatever reason, Berto fighting Floyd intrigues you.
