Now it wasn't necessary and was in large part a move to pacify both the Warhawks pushing for a campaign against the soviets and to tell the the soviets to step the fukk back, but I have a hard time weeping for the Japanese people of 1945.

Japan as a whole wasn't doing anything...it was the gov't. If you held it to the standards as any other country of that era, every person who is a citizen of that country is guilty.

i actually agree with this thread. and i know that they were in the process of the surrender

Japan was devastated by the Tokyo bombings that killed more people than both bombs. The bombs had nothing to do with surrendering but about showing other countries that "U.S. is in charge now".
