If it flops M Night getting 100% of the blame....he was on his last chance about 2 movies ago its a miracle he got to do this once far as Im concerned

OK so the last film JADEN starred in grossed $350 million worldwide. So again whichever Smith you wanna go with as the "Star" has proven boxoffice bankability...
karate kid is karate kid, this is a whole new ball game. Dude is an adolescent now so the likability he could get away with when he was a fresh faced whimper snapper doesnt apply anymore. And in this sci-fi yarn not a kung-fu drama, hes going to mostly acting against a blue screen..If the fans aint feeling this older jaden its flop city
And numbers in 2013 tell us that Will Smith is STILL the biggest box office draw in Hollywood on name power alone (along with Tom Cruise) :stopitslime:
whats he released this year :heh: and tom cruise isnt the biggest draw on name alone, the industry doesnt have those anymore
If it flops M Night getting 100% of the blame....he was on his last chance about 2 movies ago its a miracle he got to do this once far as Im concerned
when does he ever get the blame tho, hes been swimming with the turds hard since lady in the water and he still gets offers with very little blowback.Nah if this sux they will just say its another m night special. But it looks worse on the smith's resume cuz they are suppose to have a history of being bankable

This will do OK numbers but be considered a flop because of it's budget. M Night will get full blame. When in reality it's because nobody wants to see Will Smith force his spawn upon us.

Maybe it will do good international business.

I'm predicting a 45 million dollar opening weekend. Which is weak.

A 25 million dollar Friday and a 20 million dollar Saturday to be exact. With a total domestic somewhere around 120 million.

What are you predicting?

S.M.B 4 EVER
Movie hasn't even dropped yet but they already got funding for the sequel. So I guess these studios know something we don't know about the movie already lol.

Virgin Signs Deal with Overbrook to Option After Earth Sequel | Superhero Hype

Virgin Produced and Overbrook Entertainment have signed a deal which opens up the door for a sequel to After Earth. Here's the full announcement:

Virgin Produced, the film and television arm of the Virgin Group, has teamed up with Overbrook Entertainment on a non-exclusive pact, which will support the After Earth franchise, starting with the upcoming May 31st release, it was announced today by Jason Felts, CEO of Virgin Produced, and James Lassiter of Overbrook Entertainment. This pact allows Virgin Produced the option to co-produce, co-finance and co-market a sequel to After Earth. The two companies will look to develop film and television properties together, in which Virgin Produced would co-produce and market across its expansive global platforms.

The pact marks a natural relationship for both Virgin Produced and Overbrook as it reinforces both companies' missions: to find projects that entertain as well as educate, with ideas that leap off the entertainment page and into the national conversation. As Overbrook's After Earth shares many of the themes that Virgin is committed to: it focuses on the future that awaits the human race if it continues on its destructive environmental path and raises important questions about the present state of the planet, the future, and the environment.

As one of the most respected talent friendly brands, it is anticipated that the alignment with Overbrook is the first in several talent owned production company alignments as Virgin Produced increases its growth under the direction of co-founder Jason Felts. Commenting on the announcement, Felts said, “This deal makes perfect sense for us, both in a thematic sense and as a company. At Virgin, we believe it's important to give mankind a heightened awareness of the nature and vulnerability of our planet. For example, we have to travel to space to look down and see how fragile the earth is; certainly, the film takes that message to heart in both literal and figurative ways. As a company, we saw the opportunity to team up with one of the industry’s leading film and television production companies that also embraces this mission. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Overbrook on future films.”

Lassiter added, “We are excited for the opportunity to join forces with Virgin Produced. We believe they share our ultimate goal: to create entertainment that also uplifts and educates. Simply, we both believe that entertainment can be a force for good in the world – and we think both companies are leaders in that aspect. That’s why this deal is a natural fit.”

Virgin Produced, with a focus on quality product, is breaking the mold amongst producers / production companies with the ability to attract top talent and market its movies across Virgin's global marketing platform. Virgin Produced, since its inception in 2010, has co-produced and marketed a half-dozen films, primarily through its former overall deal with Relativity Media, which now has Virgin Produced operating independently.

In After Earth, a crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Columbia Pictures presents an Overbrook Entertainment/Blinding Edge Pictures production directed by M. Night Shyamalan from a screenplay by Gary Whitta and M. Night Shyamalan and a story by Will Smith, and produced by Caleeb Pinkett, Jada Pinkett Smith & Will Smith, James Lassiter, and M. Night Shyamalan.

It'll do MiB3 numbers which domestically didn't even make it budget back. Made 179 Milly, but tore shyt up world wide. I'd say 150 to 190 mill for after earth.

Anywhere between 45-57 million opening, which is solid for a non-sequel, non-comic adaptation, non 3D, original movie, although I wouldnt at ALL be surprised if it gets upwards to the mid 60's. Overall I'm predicting $150 million domestic, Will Smith has a strong overseas presence so $300-350 million overall isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Again I'm basing this off of Will's brand name star power, the fact its a tent pole SciFi film, and that MIB 3 did impressively despite him taking a 4 year layoff.

I'm just mad that I myself won't be able to catch it in theaters, this is a HELL of a fukking summer to be deployed in Afghanistan missing Iron Man, Fast 6, After Earth and Man of Steel:damn:

:pachaha: at the Gawd Will Smith bringing M.Night's career back from the grave...

I'm heavily interested in this flick for several reasons

1). A major budget SciFi Movie starring African Americans as the primary protagonists. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is a cinematic FIRST. :blessed:

2). I support Will Smith passing the torch to his children. That is black excellence at its finest and something that Cacs in Hollywood have been doing for years. Will isn't casting his children as gang members, drug addicts, c00ning stereotypes or any such drivel. He's putting them in diverse roles that showcase intelligence, heroism, and nobility:blessed:

3). I truly want to see if Night has any of the brilliance he demonstrated in his first 3 films left in him. From what I about him after his first three hits he got sucked into his own hype, told the Hollywood Cacs to go to hell and became too arrogant for his own good. I'm all for believing in yourself and telling Cacs to go to hell, but your very next movie after making that power play should NOT be Lady In The Water:whoa:

:wow:

im bout to cry
