Every time my dad comes to visit from Liberia, I get . I nag until he makes every dish in the book
that's one of the reasons i can't fukk with the south, except florida. i got to have these things in my life. although they're not always the freshest but atleast here in nyc i could walk out my house and down the block and buy two guinep or a soursop.
i won't say their used too much...that's been our staple diet for centuries and the fact that our diet is low in fats and high in fish oils combats the high starch aspects.
i can see how maybe eating our starches plus americanized food could lead to some problems. i've honestly never seen many "obese" jamiacans that eat prrimarily yard food. supposedly they're all over New York...but the ones in my fam tend to be on the skinny to healthy side.
so you gone act like alot of yard food eating yardman ain't walking around with the skyjuice belly
alot of those foods were good for centuries as people were mostly working on the land and burning it off but as the caribbean economies has been changing from agricultural and labor to more sedentary occupations and more people driving the effects of those foods, just like soul food did with AAs, are catching up. the caribbean have a very high rate of obesity and diabetes and they're increasing.
