How popular is this in Sub Saharan Africa? I have heard of Fela from Nigeria, and i like music from Senegal especially Youssou N'Dour, and of course Teddy Afro from Ethiopia, who is popular in Khartoum. In fact Teddy Afro performed in Khartoum several years ago. I do not believe Teddy Afro music is part of the Afrobeat genre, or maybe i am wrong.

No clue since I'm American but all the bigger artist are being signed to big time labels and their videos have millions of views so there is an audience. Fela, N'Dour and Teddy Afro isn't contemporary music....its like comparing funk to rap.
