Yep. Just the fact they are changing nights should severely hurt their numbers.
For historical reasons, Nitro was on TNT, and fukkin THUNDER was the TBS drop
Before 1995, WCW was always on TBS. It was WCW's flagship channel.
In general, TBS is a great wrestling channel. It has alot of great history for this business. Jim Crockett Promotions, Georgia Championship Wrestling, NWA power hour, Black Tuesday etc. So much of this business' lore was made possible by the superstation

Nothing makes a network a "great wrestling channel". It's just that they chose to field lots of wrestling. No one decades later is gonna be like "Oh shyt TBS is dropping wrestling fire again?" They are already watching the product on TNT. And none of the younger demo gives ONE shyt about any of those old promotions, or what network they aired on, or won't even youtube one segment from back in the day of these companies....
Given that the availability of both channels is the same, but TNT does better numbers (some years they have been doubling viewership), TNT is the MAIN station, with their premier programming. So that is already a negative for AEW. Add to that, that having to switch nights is NEVER a good move. TV watchers are creatures of habit, you wanna keep the day and timeslot the same as long as you can, unless you are moving to a better spot or time...
This news falls in between what AEW and WWE stans claiming, it's not a deathblow by any means, but it is a negative.
It's a lateral move in terms of potential viewers and the extra shows and pocket change aren't a bad look either. I don't see AEW doing anything of value with all that (they've already ran off all the NXT viewers and they're back to square one) but I'd rather have the extras than not. More money/airtime is never a bad thing.
The Discovery/WarnerMedia merger should be a much bigger long term concern than moving next door and getting some sweeteners.

The point is, TBS has a track record of being good for wrestling. Huge draws like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Sting etc weren't at all held back by being on TBS.
If it was fine for them, it's fine for AEW.
Raw went from USA to Spike fukking TV, that's a demotion. Going to TBS while still staying on TNT with other shows is not a demotion.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news here but that was over 20 years ago, and a few things have changed in the television landscape since then.

But when Smackdown gets preempted and has to go to Fox Sports (which has 10 million less households than both TNT and TBS), that's all good, right?
Smackdown is my favorite show...but this company mark shyt is for dweebs
