Mom: Not born in the south
Grandfather: Texas (also his parents came from florida)
Grandmother: Mississippi (also a lot of family in New Orleans)
Dad: Not born in the south
Grandfather: DC
Grandmother: I think Georgia or Arkansas

My parents have accents, my siblings and I don't really. But there's quite a few people in this area that have a generic southern "twang" to how they speak ....you can't really identify where it's from, but you know it sounds slightly southern.

Grandparents on my mother's side are from Mound Bayou Mississippi
Grandparents on my dad's side are from Sherill Arkansas and Pine Bluff
Dad was born in Sherill but raised in Pine Bluff, moved to Wisconsin for a bit, over to Chicago for a while then to Michigan.
Mom was born in Lula Mississippi then eventually moved up to Michigan with my grandfather and her youngest sister.

Born n raised in NYC

Mothers side from South carolina
Fathers side from North carolina

Both parents are new yorkers but are a direct product of the migration
This is me. Interestingly, my maternal grandparents are from the same tiny southern town. They already knew of each other but meet at the Savoy in Harlem.

My man's people are from, maybe, 20 miles away. I don't know how we managed to find each other but it families mesh perfectly. His uncle preached my great aunts funeral and the family was like 'Yes lawd! That's that good old southern preaching. :lawd:' makes sense, the uncle was born in NC. :heh:

Far away from home, we still managed to find each other. :wow:

My paternal and maternal grandmothers and maternal grandfather are all from the same parish in Louisiana too(intra-southern migration).

There's even a street named after the main city in the parish in the Frenchtown neighborhood of the city cuz so many people came from that area.

That's seems to be the case. Train routes pretty much dictated where most people went.

There is a ton of overlap though . Ie AR Ms and LA are heavily represented in both the west coast and the midwest

Ga and AL for the midwest (esp. Michigan and ohio) and the east coast
Yeah. People also saying Texas -> Cali but Texans also went to Missouri and Nebraska as well for the exact reason you brought up. The train lines.
Also Florida received lots of people from Georgia and South Carolina. My great grandparents are originally from Georgia but like many Georgians, they moved to South Florida in the 50s.
