What Southern states, counties, and towns did your people come from originally? Do you hear similar linguistic patterns among the ppl in your current city as ppl in the Southern state your kin migrated from? Do you feel a natural kinship with the ppl in those Southern towns who aren't family? I understand that there are ADOS in parts of the NE who can trace their roots to the NE exclusively. But this thread is primarily for those ADOS who's kin were involved in the 1st and 2nd Great Migrations from the The South to the North, Midwest, and Westcoast..

Let's keep this thread respectful and peaceful. ADOS history has always been one of the most(if not the most) intetesting histories of the diaspora. And I've been obsessed with The Great Migration.

HELL
Dad is from Southern Mississippi. Mom is from Memphis. Mom's parents are from Louisiana. Great-grandparents from Mom's side are from Haiti and Dominican Republic

Mom's side if the family moved up to Chicago right after my Mom was born, my dad came up to Chicago in the 80's

My whole family has a Southern accent, my great-grandparents, in the short time I knew them, spoke Spanish and English.

People usually think I'm from Memphis based on my accent even though I grew up in Chicago

Grandmother is from Texas (I forgot which part).

Grandfather is from Cleveland to my understanding.

Mom is from New Mexico and my biological father is from New York.

Grandmother moved my fam to California in the 60's-70's and me, my siblings, and cousins, etc. We're all born here, so my whole family has been here for decades.

Only thing I know about my GREAT Grandmother is she was half-Native with "long black hair".

I gotta go see her pictures at my great aunt's house.
