did it?
I'm not even trying to be funny.

they just don't sound alike.

Yes: Reggae is Jamaicanized Soul music with the first step being Rocksteady (this is how basslines got into jamaican music following the Ska era along with R&B styled vocals) and then later with Nyabinghi rhythm additions and funk became modern Roots reggae.

45:45......the bassist from Marley's band explains some this foundation of reggae (this is the Marley docu that came out in 2012)

Rocksteady is the initial start of the foundations of reggae

I'm tired of this divisive ADOS /African / West Indies crap. If we go back further in time Blues music came from Mali-so now what?

To get a feel of a different variety of African music other than the percussion heavy music we are normally associated with, listen to this to see how traditional string instruments such as the kora (mali, senegambia) and the Nyatiti/Litungu(Kenya, Uganda) were treated, as well as certain traditional wind instruments to get how they would translate onto european instruments such as guitars and trumpets. Majority of the vocal techniques used are also traditionally african as it features traditional vocalists like Ayub Ogada, Mtukudzi etc.

African music has different tones unlike what people think, the song sang during a circumcision ceremony is not the same as a praise song sang to cattle, etc. Like I said, Africans couldn't make certain genres because they didn't have access to certain instruments and so forth. Just listen to the Kora and Nyatiti instrumentation and see why they would translate to the blues and rock and roll on a guitar.

The Blues form didn't come from Mali, only certain traits of the Blues (blue notes) are ancestral to the Afram slave stock in Griot Africa/Sahel. This isn't a post slavery stream of influence.

There is no actual 12 bar blues with chord changes in Mali or anywhere in Africa, for that matter

I don't get it with you people, first it was "Black Americans have no culture or identity", now it's "Black Americans are divisive", which one are we?

Funny how we're "divisive" now, Africans/Foreign Blacks are "divisive" when they're talking down on in the country our ancestors built, I bet YOU didn't say that was "divisive", just say you hate Black Americans and keep it moving.

Because the premise of the thread is not genuine and is therefore disrespectful to Fela.
This thread is genuine, I've heard Africans/Foreign Black say we don't have a culture or identity and that everything we do, we stole from Africa. It's not my fault you're insecure about this thread.

If you hear any Africans/Foreign Blacks say my people have no culture and the culture we do have comes from Africa, make sure you let them know, that's not true.

the older afro beat. absolutely.

but modern afrobeat is mostly dancehall influence now

and yes, I know dancehall had some hip hop elements

Afrobeats (modern) sounds like a mixture of Dancehall, Hip Hop, R&B, and House music with the undertones of traditional African music.

.....he's talking about outsiders using pan-africanism as a shield when leeching off of afram pop culture through cultural appropriation but these same people will be up in arms at the first attempt at aframs doing some form of afro-atlantic/afro-fusion, Caribbean or African genre, that they most likely influenced, anyway.

Not really music-related but that’s legit the same shyt they pulled with MBJ and that rum with them bamma ass Trinis including Nicki Minaj’s bleached skin ass crying about MBJ committing “cultural appropriation” :mjlol:
