Adam Silver: League looking at remedies for players requesting trades early in their contract

Do you think a remedy exists to prevent early trade details?

The people that are selling the NBA product on TV are the biggest culprits salivating and crying daily for players to be on a contender or be in a bigger market.
They've been the main ones trying to have Donavan Mitchell play in the NY market and Beal to go to a contender for years. They've already been firing up the discussion about Edwards going to a bigger market.

Stipulate that a player must serve 50% of their contract before asking for a trade to get their full money. If they request a trade too early, penalize them with 30% of their salary for the remainder of the deal.

You sign for 250/5, you want out after Year 2 (40% of the deal), instead of 150 left you get 105 over 3 to play where you want.

I think the league should step back and consider if they are overreacting here.

How many players are requesting early trades?

Kevin Durant asking to be moved isn’t indicative of NBA players as a whole. I think he’s just a high profile guy and so everyone is talking about it.

Not sure you need to find a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist for 99% of the league.

Right. People are going to pick out 2-3 names out of the entire league.

I suppose the league is right to be concerned over the optics of it but I’m not sure it’s a big a deal as the public makes it out to be.

Only star players can do this. Kyrie, kd, Ben, harden, ad, kawhi, Jimmy in minn all have done it past 5 years

And I’m sure it’s more

You're forgetting the NBA's biggest marketing strategy is to promote the same handful of players, even above teams.

So when a high percentage of those guys starts having load management or trade rumors, it's a problem for the league's leaders.

TYRONE GA!
While all this is happening, Golden State will cruise to another 2-3 titles.

The league is designed for the fan to not care about the team at all, yet when that manifests itself, Adam Silver feels a way about that. He wants the kind of fan that rides for their team, but will ride just as hard for a particular player too like in soccer and that only works but so well in America. Fans are more likely to tune the team out if they're not good.
For Adam to even address it means some owners , his bosses just in case people forgot, are complaining

Uhhh just don't trade the nikkas...

They don't have clauses in their contracts. Make these bytch ass nikkas play
The way contracts are currently constructed all they have to do is find a medical reason they are not playing and they get paid. See Ben Simmons he had mental issues therefore he still got paid.
They are going to make contracts less guaranteed so when you miss games you miss $, regardless of the reason.

This doesn't even need to be a discussion.

Player is under contract. If they ask for a trade, team either says no or they look for one if they think it's in the best interest of the team.

I think the issue thats being missed here is they're saying they need to find a solution to players asking for a trade early on. Why you got an issue with players asking? People really don't like these players having power and feeling like they have a right to manage their own career direction.

It's the same old "shut up and dribble" rhetoric.
Well, in KD's case he sent mixed messages. He signed a 4 year deal, that says to the owner who signed you, "I like it here and plan to stay." Now before the contract even starts you ask for a trade? It's not 'shut up and dribble', it's 'make up your mind', you just signed and acted like you want to be here.

Owners can’t just up and trade players then like Blake & Harrison Barnes or Demar. Also healthy players like Wall should not be held back because of a lack of trade offers
Wall wasn’t held back because of trade offers. They told him he could play. He just wasn’t going to start but they carved out a role for him. He didn’t accept that role.

Clippers gave Blake Griffin an Oscar level free agency pitch to get him to sign a 5 year max, then dumped him first chance they got. The game is the game :manny:

DeMar DeRozan never wanted to leave Toronto but they said “fukk your feelings”, and shipped him out with no hesitation.
