Wrestling has always been based on making people think it's real. If people know who she is and comes out with this goofy name, it's already a wrap. It's the same reason why Bron Breakker was dumb from the beginning.
Plus generational wrestlers have been part of the business for ever. Imagine Randy Orton forgetting his history and just coming out as "Chris Striker"

No one is saying forget her history. It's about not shoving it down people's throats right out the gate. Ever hear of the wrestler, Barry O? That was Orton's uncle. Now why did he not use Orton and just the first initial? Rockin Robin and Sam Houston all related to Jake the Snake but they didn't need that connection. Another example is Jerry Lawler and his son Brian Christopher. Are people really upset on here that he didn't use Lawler?

Because they werent hyped as the rocks daughter joins the wwe. Theyve already broken the veil you cant just turn people's brains off. Thats also part of the problem with modern wrestling. They view it as actors on a scripted show rather than selling the facade of sport.

Lawler son should have used the name 100% instead of that unmemorable name

They don't want you to turn your brain off. They just don't want to burden someone starting with all that pressure. Look at Dominick Mysterio. Nothing about him using that name is making him any better. People literally hate Charlotte because they pushed Flair on her name once she hit the main roster. Let them find their path on their own first then come back to it. How hard is that to see? You want these kids to fail before they even start?

On the facade it's a sport died int he 90s. People need to get over it.

So actors should just use their stage name now in movies instead of the role they are playing? So Hulk Hogan should have been Terry Bollea and never Hulk Hogan?

It's still playing a role. You guys need to get over it. :heh:

This is just asinine.

You know damn well wrestlers are not just "actors playing a role" :comeon:

Wrestlers are closer to say rappers or rock stars who have a stage name that is an extension of themselves that they take wherever they are more than they're like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt.

Guys have spent most of their lives "in character", adopting accents and wearing masks until they died, etc. . .

That's not just a "role"

If Dominick Mysterio wasn't that, he'd be unemployed (at least in the wrestling business).

Mysterio absolutely benefits from having Rey's name

People hate Charlotte because she's pushed down people's throats at the expense of everybody else.

If she was booked in proportion to her merit, she'd be a lot more over.

Of course it's a role. It's still a persona, it's still an act. Some people just can't accept it. Because it's going to ruin everything about wrestling to them. It's still real to them dammit. In the end it's always going to be show business and that's the cold hard facts.

The bottom line of this argument is let them make it own their own merits and stop trying to have them live up to something so massive it's impossible to overcome.

Yes, and personas are a part of show business.

But there is a difference between "roles" and "personas"

The people on "Snowfall" are playing a role

Rappers, rockers, wrestlers have created a persona.

An actor can just move on from a role, play a cop, fireman, criminal, whatever.

Whereas personas follow you.

It's why 50 Cent can't play a fakkit in a movie without nikkaz using it hurting his rap career.

It's why when rappers get beat up or humiliated, it hurts their record sales.

Hell, it's why when wrestlers get buried, it hurts their career.

If it was just a role, there wouldn't be so many people like Muhammad Hassan & Terry Taylor who have their careers ruined by bad gimmicks.

So let her be her own persona. Let her play her own role. Let her find her own path, instead of everyone wanting her to be Rock 2.0.

What Rock adjacent name were people expecting her to have? The Peeble?
Even Rock wasnt feeling the 3rd generation marketing too much and wanted to be his own man

Im fine with it.

I think it would be even greater of a daunting thing for them to try the Charlotte Flair thing with her (Music, catchphrase outfit similar to her father) Rock is such a overwhelming presence and she's still gotta find herself as a performer it would be an awkward fit with any name change
