Day one purchase, I still keep Voodoo and Brown Sugar on regular rotation.
Always the cynic eh? Nah but seriously I saw him live last year and vocally he hasn't lost anything. He's fallen in love with the guitar more than a lot of people would appreciate but I think it'll translate better in studio recordings than at a concert.Pleasant surprise. Although he been out the game for a while, I'm a bit skeptical if he can still ride that bike.

If the message of this album is what it appears to be then it couldn't have come at a better time.
Regardless of the quality (because lets be honest nobody will be able to make heads or tail of it initially because of the hype) It'll probably mirror what "What's Going On" was to the 70's. Socially conscious R&B ain't exactly a competitive field right now plus, its D'Angelo.
If he can actually address current racial injustices then it'll be a classic before anybody has time to work out whether or not the songs are on that level.
Waited 14 years for this shyt
Debuts to the public at a listening session on Sunday for those in the know

Yeah I'll admit my expectations are tempered somewhat by the fact that him in a studio without Raphael Saaqid as a tempering influence is an unknown quantity and ?uest is liable to have told him that his mustiest farts are polished jewels, but when it comes down to it the guy hasn't put out a bad song. I'm holding steady on that trend.
I haven't seen him perform since Bonnaroo, and he still had it then, so I don't think too much will change in that regard. Just lowering my expectations, hoping for the best preparing for the worst type of thing, if it doesn't deliver, cause lord knows I've been burned many times before with artists coming outta FNS retirement.
