Yankee is not a Jamaican word first of all it literally predates Jamaica even being a crown colony
Never mind that yankee and variants are used by damn near half the world to refer to Americans

I know its not a Jamaican word einstein. Where it originated from doesnt always mean anything. Look how all over the world people use the same curse words.

The point Yankee is used as an insult. Whether you wanna say it sounds BETTER than akata, say whatever makes you happy. The point that cannot be escaped from is that it is not a compliment.

So now we are using the excuse that the world says "Yankee"? Breh stop it. Jamaicans just parroted for generations everything they learned from the British. Even the "work hard and that solves racism" mentality some Jamaicans have(noticed I said some before you get mad :troll: )

Im very familiar with jamaican use of the word, yankee. It really isn't an insult generally speaking but it can be used in a negative way depending on the context.

Akata is a flat out fighting word but 99% of aframs have never heard of this word in part because they haven't even met a Nigerian in their entire life.

I had a coworker from Guyana that called me a yankee. I was playing reggae, like 70's roots, and she said something like "I don't know too many yankees that listen to this". I didn't grow up around too many foreign Black people so I never knew it was used in a derogatory way, plus she was always bringing me food and gifts so I don't think she was being slick. I don't like that shyt though
And anyway how tf would she know what kind of music AfrAm people listen to?

People say really dumb shyt.

#ADOS
You speaking facts

I´m waiting for the day that Twitter and the ADOS community online especially catch onto ¨Yankee¨. I love how Jamaicans be saying it to any second generation relative or peer of theirs who didnt grow up in Jamaica but will then front and act like its meant for anybody of any race in America. Nah....they mean it for Blacks the same way Nigerians use Akata for Blacks. If Jamaicans meant white people also they say it.

Of course. But if ever asked especially if it blows up, they will deny it guaranteed. This is why they say so and so married a Yankee man/Yankee girl. That refers to Black Americans, when they are referring to white people they will just say white people so if they ever try to deny and say they talking about whites don't listen. They always specify when talking of white. Yankee means Black American to them and in a passive aggressive way.

You know how Black Americans will tell their kids "Don't bring home a white girl" or "If she cant use my comb dont bring her home"? These self hating people will say shyt like "Don't mess with no Yankee girl"(ADOS women) and say shyt like "You know Yankee girls cant cook make sure you get someone from yard"

yard=Jamaica
yardie=A jamaican person

This talk by them is to generalize all Black American women as single mothers and as promiscuous and they cant cook. Most know nothing about southern soul food culture. I will also let you know and you can google this yourself and verify....the irony is that in Jamaica for several decades now BOTH the out of wedlock rate and single parent homes have been higher there than in Black America.

This is facts and this even with the crack era in mind. This is even with the child support culture in mind

ADOS families have always had a likelier chance of stable husband/wife/children.

Look at this article when you get the chance, they break down certain things...an out of wedlock rate of 85 percent and then coming to America to talk down to Black Americans?

http://fathersandfamiliescoalition...._Families_Fathers_Conference_Jamaica_2016.pdf

Now Harlem.....remember something for a second keep in mind they have no controversial child support/section 8 culture that helped split families or an extreme crack era. Yes we know crack eventually hit all over the world but i mean the sole concentration was focused in America :heh: So this makes it even more crazy that they have out of wedlock and fatherless homes alot higher than ADOS.

But anyway i got sidetracked, so they are passive aggressive and talk about not marrying no Yankee girl which always refers to Black American women. Just letting people in on info before next year when they start lying in the Diaspora fights

The "anti Yankee girl or anti Yankee man" mentality is why swirling happens so much.

Above the fray.

agree with Dip

@ATLANTA

The person who mentioned the term Yankee mentioned it being used by native JAs towards JAs who are in the diaspora. Haitians use a term for Hs from the diaspora ..blanc (literally, white) but really means foreigner.....which I think is along the lines of how Yankee is used.
I'm assuming that both are used to clown people who are unfamiliar with local island customs or who can't communicate in local dialect.
It has nothing to do with NY, or a sports team......Yankee, as in yankee doodle yankee, is , as was pointed out..a Brit term for their former colony.
If you are of JA background, I am not going to presume to know more about your culture than you but I think Dip is correct here. He's from multiple heritages including JA and H, so I'm gonna wait to see if he agrees on my comparing the blanc and yankee terms.

I've pointed out before that prejudice and fears DO exist between groups of Black people, anybody who denies that is a liar whether they've personally witnessed it or not. It comes from ALL directions. Human nature being what it is, people will note and look for things directed toward their group.....and ignore the things directed from their group towards others.

For example ,until I hear people acknowledge the "African booty scratcher,jungle, monkey chaser, tarzan, huts" rhetoric and perceptions that are thrown at continental Africans.....I can't take the "they talk down to us" comments seriously.

Here is the thing though NOBODY denies the African booty sscratcher/jungle/monkey chaser/tarzan thing as you say. Who denies that? What people talk about which is true is that black people don't even say that dumb shyt anymore especially in modern times. Most of the time today that talk has been by racists, but you never hear Africans calling those people out. What grown ass black man or woman is going around calling Africans booty scratcher? For the most part when Black Americans do go at Africans, it is from being instigated.

There are not Black Americans going over to African countries in universities and in public in general and coming across other Africans and then behind their back and with their families talking down on them. That does not happen. How many stories have we had over the decades of second generation black foreign youth talking about how their parents talked about Black Americans? In the flip side, how often do you hear black american youth say their parents said problematic things about Africans? Why is it one sided?

What has happened with these social media platforms to go back to the original post in this thread, is basically its built up childish revenge mentality that they are using platforms to talk down on Black Americans from being called booty scratchers in the 80s.
