I enjoy African music, but I don't really like the commercialized mainstream hip hop that's mostly in West Africa at the moment. I also don't like African gospel.....There's only one song that my mother would always sing that I like....People try to get me to listen to African gospel and I'm like nah......
One of my favorites by Fela is Shakara...
I agree with the OP..personally cause as Pan Africanist with strong interest in the culture of my people globally naturally I tried to familiarize myself with African music while i must admit my knowledge on the music is limited on a whole i still appreciate it for what is....
here's some stuff i round recently that i dug
don't understand and anything but the message transcends words
sounds like a nice breezy contemporary traditional African music
this sister >>>>>any modern jazz artist regardless of continent
she remind me of African India Irie
I disagree...i'm not even religious like taht that but .African gospel has been one of the more relatable genres of music from the continent imo cause it's very reminiscent of AA gospel without sounding forced
tell me you wasn't feeling the holy ghost when Zimbabwean Kirk Franklin sang praises to the mighty name of Jehovah
