Wiseman believes he and the Warriors
could be an ideal match,
"I feel like that’s a great fit,” Wiseman said Tuesday about potentially being drafted by the Warriors on ESPN's "The Jump." “I feel like playing with veteran players like them can help me develop my game quickly, but I can also just learn from them because they’ve been in the league for a really long time, so just me being under their wings will be really great.”
Wiseman was a top recruit coming out of college and was projected to be the top pick in the draft when the college basketball season tipped last fall. The NCAA ruled Wiseman ineligible after it found that Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway gave his Wiseman's family money to move while Wiseman was still in high school. Wiseman was reinstated but suspended 12 games and asked to pay back the $11,500 his family received. He instead elected to leave Memphis to turn pro after just three games,
Wiseman compares his game to Chris Bosh and Anthony Davis. Those are big names for the 7-foot-1 19-year-old to throw out. Bosh was a two-time NBA champion and 11-time All-Star and Davis is one of the five best players in the NBA right now. He's an athletic, skilled center with a versatile offensive repertoire and the length to alter shots on the defensive end.
Some question whether or not Wiseman will be able to stretch the floor at the NBA level, but his free-throw percentage (70 percent) and fluid jumper are likely indicators that it won't be a huge issue at the next level.
The Warriors reportedly met with Wiseman via Zoom and appear to be intrigued by the player who could be the most talented prospect in his class.
After a 15-50 season, the Warriors enter the draft in a different position than most of the teams that join them. They are not staring a long rebuilding process in the face nor have they been trying to escape the lottery for years on end.
This is merely a pit stop on the road back to the top. One Wiseman might soon join them on.
