What effect can a mayor have on the infrastructure and economy of a city, if the state and local governments are totally uncooperative? Detroit is a democratic voting city in a state that goes red during governors races, and which was devastated by the lessening of tariffs and the decimation of the manufacturing industry by free flowing capital, which was brought about by the ideology of the Chicago school of economics. So this is clearly a misnomer.
It would be just as irrational for me to blame Mississippi's 3rd world level poverty on its permanent Republican rule.
its not really relevant what party it was but detroit went down because of incompetent leaders and corruption, the decline in manufacturing just made the situation worse
Sovereignty and democracy been shytted on in Detroit for sure....
But 3/4ths of the city don't even understand the local "democracy" in which they operate and thus elect people who don't understand it either...as much as its fukked up and i hate it....Detroit really don't have to many options.

I dont know how true it is but I remember back in ktl I posted a study that said 50% of Detroit residents were functionally illiterate
and when you combine that with politicians playing the race card and powerful unions being the only real organized political force, you have decades of incompetent leadership
Its pretty close, most people are voting based off name association. Hell the city council barely campaigned the last election they just won because most of them were already incumbents and one cat was a local celebrity.
We have a pretty qualified (private sector wise) running for mayor this time, well connected, helped revitalize our hospital system...thing is he's white. And that's gonna be a major hill for him to climb, people in this city are ignorant like that. Half of the argument against the EFM is simply the fact that Gov. Snyder is a white republican, eff the fact that he's a governor that has to do what he can to SAVE THE ECONOMIC, POPULATION, CULTURAL AND TRANSPORTATION CENTER of his state. Detroit is Michigan's capital in everything but name.
Its gonna be interesting to see how it all goes, but i'll be damned if i vote for one more incompetent, no-experience having, blowhard who thinks they can run this city simply because they are black....Black folks ran Detroit for the better part of 50 years and look what we did to it....we always wanna talk about "change" until WE are the ones that we have to change from.
Black, white, latin, purple, orange idgaf what you are. If you have a track record for revitalization and have a plan I plan i can comprehend...i'll vote for you...
