This is just more recruiting material for all the Arabic terror groups too. “Look at this country. They let off a war criminal who butchered captured soldiers because the victims look like us.”

You see, after 9/11 it was all about winning. US military has had a problem for years with looking for the best shot and not the best person. They knew he was like this before he joined. No one is born this way. There is an illness in the country that normalizes this behavior towards minorities, inside and outside of the borders of the USA.

Some people are absolutely born rotten. Someone like this would’ve been violent no matter what career path he took. Still, there’s clearly no effort made by the military to combat this issue.

The Navy prosecutors wanted to bury this guy, but they fukked up the case. They sent spyware to the defense, and the lead prosecutor was removed, so the case was marred from the beginning, their main witness perjured himself on the stand, saying he killed the ISIS teenager. It's a miscarriage of justice, and a disgraceful event, but I saw it coming. I don't know much about military justice, but I wonder if there was a better way to try him federally, and not a court martial.

He's not even being discharged, docked pay, and knocked down a rank. The man posed for pictures with a murdered child. It's a mockery.

This has to do with recruitment, basically sending the message to the guys coming up that if you become a SEAL we will always protect you no matter what you may end up doing. These armed forces prosecutors are usually working at the behest of the various military/political administrations.

As a complete coincidence, at work I picked up a book off the bookshelf that I hadn't seen before, and it was talking about military compartmentalization. How soldiers are explicitly and effectively taught to disregard everything they believe about morality in the outside world and replace it with totally different moral standards for soldiers.

The effects are damaging in three ways. First, they're forced to disregard their normal moral impulses, including all their natural emotions, and replace it with an impassionate logical script that ignores all the normal emotional and spiritual clues that usually tell you when you're doing something fukked up. Second, that sort of moral compartimentalization is an unhealthy way to live and screws up your emotional life. And third, pure compartimentalization isn't ever possible, so the degraded standards of "this is what is okay in war" inevitably leak out into the rest of society too.

Obviously, many many soldiers don't commit war crimes and this guy was especially sociopathic. But like Duncan Hunter did when he said the quiet part loud, it's a type of sociopathy that is accentuated by how the military treats morality.

A have a recon marine buddy.

His typical exchanges on the subject:

RM:"I don't care what anyone thinks who hasn't seen combat."

RP: "He was reported by and the witnesses against him are people he was in combat with."

RM: "Well, you haven't seen a 'civilian' kill one of your brothers so you wouldn't understand."

RP: "Keep that same energy when people protest protest police violence against their friends and family"

RM: "this is why we shouldn't talk politics and religion. Let's just all get along and come together."

RP: "This is why we don't. And won't."

I think the only reason I didint lose this type of morality is because I couldnt let go of the fact that these people, the taliban and the afgahn people are human beings. I couldnt just let go of that.
