Where did he get his reup money if he has $70 and the goat cost $80?

WHERE DID HE GET THE INITIAL $60?

If he started with 60 and sells for 70. He gained $10.

Once he buys it for $80 (assuming $60 was his startup money and he added the $10 profit to total $70) he’s taking a $10 loss.

Selling it for $90 puts him back where he started. Nothing gained.

Nah, look at it this way.

Say he started with $100 in his pocket, he buys the goat for $60, now he has $40 and the goat. He sells the goat for $70, he now has $110. He buys another goat for $80, now he has $30 and the goat. He sells the goat for $90, now he has $120. He started with $100, now he has $120. He made $20.

I’m only dealing with the numbers in the question. Where did $100 come from?

He buys a goat for 60 -60
then he sells it for 70 -60+ 70 = 10
Then he buys it back for 80 10-80=-70
Then sells it for 90 +90

-70+90 = 20

It doesn't matter. Even doing it your way, he started with $60, ends up with $80. Say he has $60 buys the goat, sells it for $70. Now he wants to buy the goat again for $80, he gets the extra $10 from somewhere else so he has the $80, he sells the goat for $90, pays back the $10 and has $80 in his pocket. He started with $60 and now has $80. He made $20.
