A friend of mine went to the hospital for chest pains in August, and was told he was fine. 3 months later he dies suddenly.

RIP

Took me a few years to find a black male doctor and im glad i have and see him once a year but any problems I might have i checked in sooner

Main thing he told me since i never smoke or drink, just keep a eye on your cholesterol levels and blood pressure as a black man because we deal with a lot of stress

Another thing don’t be afraid to take medications

did he have a family history of heart issues? Was he tracking his Triglycerides, HDL and LDL? History of smoking/drinking/high stress? Was he on meds?

why do I feel like this is like your 3rd or fourth friend who has died early?

The thing about hospitals is that their doctors there aren't your family doctors. They don't have that relationship with you, and many times its all a numbers game. You come in with chest pains at a young age triage and your bp is ok they will just say its prob acid reflux or some ish. You gotta exaggerate your symptoms like the pain is 10/10 type ish and try and get a ecg and/or angiogram .

I recommend to everyone buy a BP machine, get a smart watch that can check ecg, go for walks.

I’m so so sorry for your loss.

Truth is, the hospital is in the business of getting people in and out. If his stats returned to normal under their watch, they were cleared to let him go. And we won’t even talk about how the healthcare system treats Black people.

Was he going to specialists, getting stress tests, etc after? They have to test you over a period of months to a year with something like that.

Always get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.
