Had a hell of a Saturday night and a rough Sunday, so no big breakdown for game 2 but some thoughts.

. Kanter doesn't provide any rim protection, so KP being pulled from the basket is already becoming damaging as guys like Ish Smith destroy us again.

. This isn't really a compliment but somehow Ron Baker >>> Sessions so far because Sessions is awful on defense and Baker tries.

. KP continues to look ready for the role, my biggest unanswered question now is whether or not he can keep it up for 82 games.

. McDermott's effort is there, sometimes the awareness isn't but the work ethic is still helping him impact games without a PG to set him up for baskets. Idk about his future with us, but I respect the effort.

. I said it his last stint and I'm still saying it, unless THJ figures out how to impact the game in areas other than scoring he's not gonna earn that contract. He was probably a bit overhyped to return to the Garden hence missing some easy ones like the dunk but it's glaring that dude was invisible except for when he was shooting.

. KOQ's working like a dude who doesn't wanna lose his spot. He's defending better than the other bigs, grabbing tough boards and does a bit of everything on offense. He could play himself into a nice return starting over Kanter and I don't think we'd suffer offensively. One of the two gotta go though, Willy needs minutes.

. I'll take losses like the Detroit game. The team worked hard and showed flashes of the defensive identity forming. They really struggled with physicality but that's pretty common for young teams and something that they'll have to deal with until they figure it out.

@storyteller im not sure if i wanna see Porzingis keep this um for 82 games

Impressive start but he does this every year, then levels off

He does definitely look improved, and even more versatile offensively

But the mental toll from carrying a group of bums in your back, playing your hardest and still losing almost every game...

Sounds like a great recipe for an injury

Its basically a throw away year so i think Hornacek should be very careful. Id actually rest Porzingis and sit him out some games, take him out of games early when were gettin blown out

We get a top 5 pick to pair with Porzingis next year and hopefully Frank improves throughout this year, thats the plan. We dont need Porzingis breaking his leg or anything like that

It's early in what is going to be along season full of losses.

But:
- I didn't like the Hardaway signing, and I still don't. I hoped he developed the ability to create for himself a little more, and I'm not seeing that early.
- Kanter is an abomination on defense, and a black hole on offense.
- McDermott looks lost for stretches
- I have to assume that there is a directive from above to play KOQ big minutes early to try to trade him. OR that Wily was the leaker on the Horny/KP rumor.
- All of our point guards are horrible, and since we're not going to win you have to let Frank play through the mistakes.
- Porzingis remains great. But it's getting more and more obvious that he will ultimately play the 5, because he never gets out to a stretch or flex 4 to cover the 3. Though, he did play Melo tough when matched up, which was great to see. With better coaching, he could use the length to easily make up for lack of lateral quickness.

Really not a lot of highlights so far. Feels like they're playing at a slightly faster pace. But it's two games.

Settle in.

I think it's this or something like it. There's no way it's basketball related. There's no need to showcase O'Quinn or even Kanter at this point. Everyone in the league knows what you're going to get from them.

It'd be nice if Frank could stay game ready often enough to even play. But even if he could, I'm not sure Hornacek has enough intellect to play him that way. He has a weird obsession with Ron Baker. Ron Baker had Ray Felton looking like Patrick Beverly the other night. Our Ray motherfukking Felton.

I don't mean we need to run him into ground, I just want him to keep up the quality of play or to put it another way, I expect us to be blown out enough this year that he can rest organically assuming Hornacek doesn't just leave him out there like game one. But rather than the raw stats, I just want KP to put up the efficiency numbers and keep the energy level whenever he's out there. The way he's been attacking and the diversity is key, if he can keep being aggressive whenever he's out there, that'll be the keeping it up in my mind.

I don't see what we have that I'd be willing to give, matches contracts and would be enough for Bledsoe but he knows Hornacek's system and we need a PG. Might hurt our tank but I don't think too much and he's only got one more year after this one. Either way, I doubt they want what we've got though they did inquire on Kuz last year and KOQ would fit some needs.

Frank and Willy are not getting traded.

I'm on board to get Bledsoe, I think a motivated Bledsoe is a top 10 PG in the league and he is in his prime. I think he's a good stop gap PG while Frank develops behind him. The Knicks are throwing out Ramon Sessions, Ron Baker, and Jarrett Jack out there, disgusting. I think we need a real NBA quality PG, also Bledsoe used to be a great defender on the Clippers.

I also like that if we trade for Bledsoe we'd be able to clear logjams at certain positions, there's a ton of guys on this team that could use a change of scenery or flat out need to get traded because they can't get minutes or are taking minutes from young players.

Enes Kanter and Kyle O'Quinn are taking Willy's minutes, Sessions and Jack are 30+ and are washed, Kuz isn't even playing after a great eurobasket run.

If we can wrap up this Bledsoe trade, the next order of business should be trading Lee to a playoff caliber team perhaps Charlotte since he had success there and Batum is out for significant time. Trading Lee opens up minutes for Dotson and minutes for Ntlikina off the ball, even McBuckets.

I can actually see that; it's becoming more and more apparent that Frank was a Phil pick and that Jeff (and maybe others) may not have been on board with the pick.
I think Hornacek has a more uncertain future than Willy and Frank. Only reason he probably didn't get canned is because he's in his second season. I don't think he has any call in what players are staying and going.
