In the summer they likely traveled the AAU circuit, but home base is NY. Melo left Bklyn as an 8 year old child with his mother. Every formative year of his life was spent in Baltimore Md.

For the record my formula applies to any state or place. If somebody moved from Compton/Alabama/Texas/ATL at age 8, they couldn't claim it IMO.
I have older cousins that left NY around 10 and grew up mostly in Cali (military brats). They sound like Ice Cube and Yo-Yo. They know about swap meets, low riders, love funk, the Lakers, UCLA and are familiar with gang culture. But put em on the NYC subway by themselves and we'd have to send a search party to find em.
