We wanted Rubio and Curry badly

But we didn't trade up to get them. We took Hill when we had no PG with D'antoni coaching. To illustrate how bad we blew it, here are PG's that went after our pick
Brandon Jennings (10), Jrue Holiday (17), Ty Lawson (18), Jeff Teague (19), Darren Collison (21), Patrick Beverly (42), Patty Mills (55)

7 quality PG's that we could have traded as far back as the second round and landed. Granted the second rounders were a bit surprising (Mills had some hype tbh) but that 17-21 crew were all pretty well recognized. I wanted a trade down for Lawson specifically at the time, but any one of those guys would have put D'antoni in a much better position to succeed. I honestly think Hill was picked in almost a panic move because the assumption was that Hill would go to GS and we would get Curry, but that's not an excuse so much as an even worse indictment.

Another big measuring stick game against a top 4 team tonight. Safe to say the tank is over with a win
I wouldn't say that the tank is over.

I would say that with a win tonight, the dyed in the wool "We have to fake a KP injury to force losses to get a top 3 pick" brehs are going to have to buy in to the "enjoy the competitive nature of our players and be content with whatever pick position represented of actual talent on the roster."

It's just a much healthier and enjoyable way to "fan" a sports entertainment entity. Each game, root for your players and at the end of the day/season, see where the pieces fall.

Enjoy the season brehs.

If we get that W tonight, brehs, thread title will be changed to - EXTRA!! EXTRA!! Tanks Called Off, Post-War Rebuild Official Knicks 17-18 Season thread :blessed:

I logically understand why a tank can be good, but I never understood how you can rationalize rooting for it as a sports fan :patrice:

Nothing wrong with being organically competitive with a young squad. Just enjoy it :manny:

Agreed. The Spurs are the only team that I can remember where tanking directly led to a championship (Duncan). If there are others, I would like to know.

Tim Hardaway played competitively and we got Porzingis.

The feeling that the one year we got a top 4 pick was because we were just a genuinely BAD team trying to win and got Porzingis is so fukking fulfilling. Imagine losing on purpose and getting someone else who won't be close to him. :whoa: I mean, I'd be legit sick if we "LOST" by intentionally losing and drafting a bust.

I don't care if the Knicks win if the young talent are spearheading it...
My only problem is losing with Frank, Willy not playing...like the first 3 games.

It's still early. It almost seems like they're sitting Willy so he appreciates the time when he does start playing more. And Frank is coming off an injury. No need to run him into the ground yet.

Yea and honestly, Kanter is 25, not 30.

If he's playing well, Willy is learning that name recognition or being best friends of the star doesn't mean you're entitled.

Get up, go to work...and put in work everyday - true improvement won't be denied and he'll get the time.

He's an old 25 though because he's bounced around and he's already found his niche in the league, not much room for improvement. By deadline he needs to be shipped just how I feel.

Willy does everything he does except he shows some passing skill and is three years younger with potential to hopefully be more on defense with development. The big I want next to KP for the future is Bamba anyway though. :manny:

By midseason I hope to trade Kanter and Lee. Those two guys would be good contributors to playoff bound teams. Open up more minutes for WHG, Frank, Dotson. Full youth movement by the second half, ensure a good pick.
