If KP continues to play like this the Knicks might not be that far off. They could become a dark horse playoff team this year if they continue to play the way they have been playing during this win streak.

:picard:

The variety of ways he can score, and at 7'3" it's just hard to bother his shot. The Knicks aren't that far off, the biggest hole on their team is at SF.

They also need just a little more bench depth too, but yeah PG too because Frank and Jack aren't ready to go up against the elite PG's. On the low that has been the difference between W/L's so far.

Which is a bit of my fear. If they could come away with Porter, Doncic, they would be set long term. Knox or Bridges might be great too but it's more of a risk because they are tweeners.

KP could be the best player on a championship team. They just got to build around him before the cap gets locked in paying the current set of youth.

What's ill about KP is he has a counter to whatever the defense throws at him. Man he went in the chamber this summer and came back on some Terminator 2 shyt.
If Timmy can be consistent and/or if KP is able to improve his passing, Kris the Godson WILL be unstoppable.

The Knicks are supposed to be tanking and I want the losses, but watching the nuggets clown show in the third quarter along with KP’s dominance made this win so damned sweet. There were some staples of last year, our 5’s still can’t deal with stretch bigs and we can’t protect a lead to save our lives...but kp and tim Hardaway stepped up in the fourth and held on to that lead. It’s scary that this team is still loaded with upside. Thj is pressing, frank is nervous, Dotson hasn’t cracked the rotation and the bench rotation as a whole still hasn’t completely ironed out. It’s hard to say exactly what we have because things haven’t even come together yet fully, KP has just been playing on a level with the best players in the conference.

KP: KP was unstoppable last night, the kind of unstoppable reserved for stars and scoring machines. 38 points on 14 of 26 shooting. He was pulling up over double teams, pumping three pointers in whenever he got an inch and dunking on heads when he could build up steam. But again it’s worth highlighting his defense just as much as his scoring. He had 3 blocks, protecting the paint well when he could and sticking to Milsap in space. He made Milsap's life hell, holding an all star to 2 for 13 from the field. This was absolutely one of his best performances but with room for improvement. He had 5 TO's and 7 rebounds which both could be improved.

Lee: you know how i said he gives us what we need every game breakdown so far? That again. 12 points, 4 assists, 2 boards after he grabbed 10 boards the game before. Defensive rotations feel crisper whenever he’s out there to boot.

Kanter: it’s not fair to expect this dude to hold a Jokic for four quarters. He did respectably well for the first half but seemed to slow down like everyone else in that second half on night two of a back to back. 12 and 9 plus two assists including a pass out of post position to cutting KP. It’d be fantastic if he started finding open guys and cutters from the post. Look he is what he is and I realize his fanclub hates to accept it but the guy has very little range and needs to be helped and covered defensively. But what I've said from jump is that he has to do more positive to make up for those negatives, which he has done clearly since that second half benching. If he adds a bit of passing to his offensive game, he'll really be a quality piece. 20 mpg is perfect to get his scoring and rebounding punch without him becoming a defensive liability, on plenty of nights he'll be good for more than that and on others he'll need a quicker hook but it is what it is.

Jack: Another game and another gang of assists...how did Sessions and Baker struggle so much!? The joy of his 6,10,3 performance is that he almost never forces things. The third quarter got shaky off of heavy ball denial but he's been a calming presence since starting. He's essentially been the anecdotal evidence that you give young guys a good vet to guide them and those young cats can improve very quickly.

Hardaway: There are two aspects to this performance worth noting. One, he was ice cold for three quarters and salvaged another poor shooting night by going off in the fourth for 13 points. Two is that he kept himself valuable by playing sharp defense, grabbing some boards and notching some assists. 13, 4 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. When the scoring got going, he felt like the mass quality piece from the other night. Before that, he still felt useful. I think the scoring thing has been more mental than ability at this point. He was visibly frustrated in the third and it came to a head with Jamal Murray's fake tough guy elbow but that snapped THJ into the zone...so thanks Jamal Murray for that Charmin soft little forearm shiver.

KOQ: Has a case for being our best Center right now mainly off of how dynamic he's been. In 21 minutes he notched 15 points, 12 boards and 5 blocks on just 4 FGA's. He was an absolute terror in the first half and closed the game strong with a stand out block in help defense while the Knicks were up just 4 points. His playmaking was off, 3 TO's and some passes with too much mustard but overall the man has answered Hornacek's "play hard or sit" ultimatum with one of his most consistent stretches since signing.

McBuckets: Found the three ball in a nick of time. That's because he had his absolute worst defensive game of the season last night. Late rotations, beaten off the dribble and at times pure confusion defined his defensive play. He still contributed though by knocking down timely jumpers and notching a few boards and assists. 11, 3 and 2 with three treys...a solid night but that defensive play leaves the door open for others to pull a jack move on his rotation slot.

Frank: Denver hit him with a full court press, some hard doubles and heavy ball pressure all night. He never really got comfortable. 5 points, 1 ast, 2 boards and 2 steals for the rookie but with 4 TO's. He picked his dribble up early and telegraphed the plays on a couple of occasions, got the ball poked loose and honestly REALLY could use more screens when a team makes that kind of effort to deny him. It's odd that last game he received the ball a lot of times off of screen action to start but had to handle through full court pressure this time.Anyway, his defense was still good but brought down by foul issues that you expect from a feisty rookie. Overall, showed some promise but also showed that he's a developing player with a lot of room to grow. His three pointer amid real struggles and dwindling lead was a really nice bit of pure confidence though and he was a defensive sub late which is cool to see for such a youngster.

Beas: 4 pts, 2 boards and 2 TO's in 14 minutes...not a particularly good game and honestly, Lance didn't do bad the night before which made this rotation change seem awkward. I do like Beasley long term for that back up SF role personally, but this game didn't help his cause.

Dotson: My obsessions with dude's rebounding instincts continues. 6 minutes 5 boards 2 assists and quality defense. He and Frank have real chemistry defensively and I really hope Hornacek keeps finding minutes for that pairing. Dotson's numbers weren't garbage time stats, he came in while the Nuggets had just made a bit of a run and he helped the team rebuild an impressive lead. I want more minutes for him, more auditions and more experience.

Willy: 1 block and a +3 in 3 minutes, he didn't have enough time to say much. I shudder to think what happens when Noah is also on the active roster.

Hornacek: He's got the team rolling right now and just pulled off both wins in a back to back which has felt increasingly rare for the Knicks. He found minutes for Dotson and let Frank play through pressure in spite of some mistakes, both good signs. I don't like the back-up SF switch but get the logic on it. I do have some complaints. I think he stuck with the starters too long in the third, so the bench came in to swim against an absolute wave of momentum. I think McDermott's three point shooting kept him out there when he was making some ugly defensive plays whereas I'd prefer to reward the better defensive guys especially when we had a lead most of the game. But those are fairly minor. He gave KP a big break before sending him out to close which was wise and overall minutes management on a back to back was quality. The defense really only fell off when TO's made it easy for the Nuggets to score before the defenders got position...yeah, we've got three straight games where defensive schemes have looked pretty good and that's a long streak relative to our last few years. Okay Hornacek...what you're doing is working, I respect it.

I'll always feel like Phil was trolling to get himself fired.

KP looking like a first ballot hall of famer right now.

And that's sad when the only logical someone could make to explain your moves is "he must be trying to get fired"... Like signing Melo to the contract, only to turn around and try to trade him, while bashing him in the process and expecting a top-flight return at the same time.... Had me like

I'm convinced that Mills went back to Dolan on some "ya mans is looking real crazy outchea, messing everything up"

More Rose than anything, he doesn't need a PG who is ball dominant.

Same reason I was in here arguing not for drafting DSjr (besides his knees) over Frank. KP need a guy who will pass him the ball and keep other PG's from driving into the lane to put him into foul trouble.

Great analysis.

I've always had my opinion on the whole Melo-Phil relationship, based on Phil's remarks before he ever signed with New York.

For some context, peep Phil's Real Sports Interview with Bryant Gumble. When Gumble asked Phil his opinion on Melo and Phil basically shytted on him and called him a loser.

A few months later Phil signs a contract with NY. However, it has always been my contention based on what I've read that Dolan basically gave Phil 60 million dollars, with the stipulation that he has to keep Melo.

Later down the road, when Melo's contract is up for renewal - that same very same summer - Phil, while not flat out saying "I don't want him" (he can't cuz Melo is Dolan's love-child, notice Melo and LaLa to this day have always had good things to say about Dolan) says "We'll be okay whether he signs with us or not" - Not exactly an endorsement from the team's President of Basketball Operations.

My point? The one constant with the Knicks the past 16 years is that Dolan, while he spends money, ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS meddles with basketball related matters...ALWAYS! The Rangers who he virtually ignores has had more success than the Knicks, which speaks volumes.

Phil took the money and when he realized Dolan was sticking to his guns on Melo, Phil was like "fuk this shyt" and stopped giving a phuk, if he ever really did in the first place.

But that's history now...while Phil's tenure here was a disaster....if Porzingis ends up becoming one of the greatest Knicks in NBA history (provided Dolan doesn't phuk it up), Phil's name will always be attached to him.

Let's go Knicks!!!!!
