MOBILE, AL (WALA) -
The popping noise of gunshots and screaming could be heard in a Facebook Live video taken Saturday night by rapper C-Nile Afari. Five
5 people were injured in a shooting including one juvenile at a block party at the Roger Williams housing complex.
"The police were right there, got the police out there, so you think that's gonna keep everything down, but it was crazy man, crazy man," Afari said in the video.
No one was killed during that shooting but eight people have been killed in the last nine days. The most recent shooting happening Sunday night around 11:30. Officers found a man shot to death on Airport Blvd at I-65.
"I never thought this would actually happen in this general area," said Fred Jones who lives near Saint Stephens Road.
Three people have been murdered and five others injured in the last two weeks.
"The double homicide at the PNC bank was related because they were killed together but we're not seeing any other relationship, there's not a correlation geographically. These happened in North Mobile, West Mobile and South Mobile. Its been domestic violence to drug related,” said Mobile Police Chief James Barber.
35 year-old Gary McCovery was shot to death Saturday in Mobile Terrace and his mother is pleading for justice.
"I just wish they would stop it every day somebody gets killed. Please help me please help me," she said.
Chief Barber said the city is seeing a spike in violent crime.
"Last year we finished with a 10 year low in homicide and murder and this year we are well past the mean average for Mobile and we're at 32 with two months to go," Barber explained.
Barber said a lot of the homicides are due to teenagers having guns.
This year alone, 11 teenagers have been killed and that's more teens killed than in the past 5 years combined.

This shyt is unprecedented down there. Per capita, this murder rate is topping most major cities, and they are targeting anybody. I know women die everyday, but this latest murder touched a lot of peoples hearts.
Today there was a shootout on the southside, and Leflore High School was put on lockdown.
