Plus Tobias fades when it matters
Pistons fans gotta accept, the way we've done it since 1990 ain't it...winning with 1 star at best is not going to work ever again. They need to trade picks and some of the young dudes for a star. The "unc" stimulus package got them here but they need to pivot or they'll have a similar year next year. They should literally be trying to package what they got except case for Giannis or someone. Why was Kat never in discussion for Detroit?
They gotta stop trying to do this the hard way.
Going for Kat was an all in type of trade when the reality was they had no idea what they really had on their hands after that chaotic Monty season. What's happening now is essentially what Weaver and Monty should have been doing last year. That's just a whole year of discovery and team development wasted, water under the bridge now.
And I don't think any of us think just going with Cade as the single star worthy player is the move. We've all been calling for another team threat. But I still don't think it's time for an all in move yet. Look to add another piece this off-season that's not at a major cost regarding assets. You see what happens with internal growth since our young guys have shown to be talented players. Then you see how things shake out heading to the trade deadline. Most of the vets will be expiring, and you can sort out better with the youth who to keep and who's expendable. No need to fasttrack it. That's how you end up with shyt like Blake Griffin trades.
For those citing examples like the the hawks as team that didn't move fast enough, there are counter examples like Boston and Golden State, who in the face of making hasty decisions to trade guys like Klay and JB, stood pat and let them grow together. Your seeing a similar situation with OKC too. This summer is real important though. We'll find out what Trajan thinks of this core by the moves he makes after these playoffs.
