84 pictures of dead malls
For those of a certain age, the mall used to be the vibrant hub of retail. Quite literally you could get everything under one roof. But with one in five malls failing, it may herald the end of the mall. Especially if these pictures are anything to go by. Across the country, malls are falling into disrepair. Some, as you’ll see, particularly those in the Rust Belt, are abandoned entirely. Others still maintain a 30% occupancy rating and house just a few remaining stores. Here are 84 pictures of abandoned or failing or flat-out dead malls across America.

this country is dying because of more technology especially with the net and people are buying over the net, watching movies online and the whole nine

Seems like it.

Most of those malls can't survive without that much traffic and overhead costs for the stores...

The mall really just seems like something that is a late 20th century fixture and nothing more.

Very interesting.

They have turned a some of the dead malls here into shopping centers that are flourishing...but we still have about 5-7 that still do well. The ones that have been turned were failing before the economy. I see more stores that I use to see in malls popping up in centers in the hot spots around the city.

Most people have no idea how much the commercial real estate market is oversaturated. It's hard to tell with all the new construction going on, but it's not just retail. My biggest concern is office space with low occupancy. New or old, all are having problems maintaining tenancy.

Chicago people, y'all know River Oaks gone join the list soon too right? Watch in 5-10 years its gone be gone. But it wont matter cause they're bringing an outlet mall out here anyway.

The one that trips me out is the one that used to stand in Harvey where the police station is now... i used to go past there everyday when i was a kid and wonder why it was there.
