What's happening is that LGBT is now undergoing slight similarities to what Black people went through, specifically as it relates to how certain groups of people simply existing (with no fault of their own) had a negative influence on political outcomes, especially during the late 1800s, particularly during the eras of Reconstruction and early parts of Jim Crow.
Whenever a party or candidate back in those eras was considered to be too “radical”, socially, when it came to being anti-slavery/pro-abolitionists, or pro-civil rights, etc among other things those candidates and parties often lost because the people who voted against them became concerned about those groups gaining too much power or influence within society, hence they elected candidates to put an end to all that with policies such as Black codes, Jim Crow, etc.
There are a lot of people who think Trump will implement certain policies to stifle the progress and lives of the LGBT communities in the same vein as how many believe he will do the same with immigration.
