I remember my dad driving down State St and seeing all the empty lots of where the stateway gardens/Robert Taylor Homes used to stand.

It was such a culture shock to me because I read books that spoke about it, but didn't realize how big the place was.

some of the area where stateway around 35th street was has been redeveloped, but I agree, the majority of that land is still vacant, which makes no sense.

How many cities still got housing projects like that?

We still got 4 of ours left in San Antonio. I know some cities like Atlanta, New Orleans, Mobile got rid of all of them

I know some cities still got a few and tore down others
Mobile still has a couple (Gulf Village, Oaklawn Homes, Birdville)

The worst were Orange Grove, Happy Hills, and Roger Williams projects down here.

I’m trying to figure out how Bowen Homes got left off

Most notorious one in Vegas got tore down 20 years ago...that caused a gang war to pop off on the Westside of Vegas...it was called Gerson Park...GPK was the set
