[I was thinking, just approaching this from a different angle. Food stamps create positive economic movement at grocery stores, a huge cut in that can lead to higher prices at stores, due to a dip in profits. I'm lookin at it that way, because some people would still need the stamps, an extra dollar or two an hour isn't much.
I can't speak for welfare, but from what I know Section 8 is only for 2 years, then you got to reapply and show hardship. Either way, without rent control in NYC for example a lot of people would be f*cked, you're gonna need some sort of welfare in an unequal society to keep everything stable.
really, i didnt know about that. living in cali and ny gotta be rough
clinton reformed welfare in the 90sthere should be a limit on how long you can live off welfare
Honestly Obama might have to sign it. I don't see republicans passing anything better...
and yet, they didn't even touch the farmer welfare in the fukking bill.
Nah breh, where the f*ck did you learn economics, b? Even street hustlers know the basic law of supply and demand. Food stamps are free, so the more you have, the more you buy. The more you buy, the prices start rising, because hey, the seller wants to see how much more you can afford before you stop buying. Cutting food stamps will lead to less demand, so prices will have to either go down, or the seller will go out of business, because all the cash buyers aren't willing to pay the inflated prices because it's not free for them.
Food stamps don't last forever, unless you have children under xyz age. All of those food stamp customers stop buying everyone in the chain gets hurt. Prices will rise depending on the situation to compensate. Is that difficult to understand? Cutting food stamps wont lead to less demand. You'll see a rise in crime to support the necessity. So when you're place gets broken into or your mother gets stabbed for her iphone you don't have to ask G-d why. Seems like you need to work on your economic theory, friend. Or you need to read more than what your professor told you.
So to you, less buyers = higher prices? Let's say wholesale cost of bread is $1, and every place sells it for $2. Let's say nobody buys for 1 month. What do you think is gonna happen, somebody's gonna raise the price to $3, or lower it to $1.50?
Do you actually believe a store is going to cut their prices because people who lost their food stamps are no longer buying?
They'll buy less of said bread and or replace is with a better bread because they've gentrified all the food stampers out.
