CLEVELAND – Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley didn’t even come face-to-face at their official weigh-in Saturday morning at the Intercontinental Hotel.

The Internet sensation and the former UFC welterweight champion apparently will save their last bit of trash-talking for a ceremonial weigh-in Saturday afternoon that is open to the public. They were strictly business while making weight the day before their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Paul, of Westlake, Ohio, stepped on the Ohio Athletic Commission’s scale at 190 pounds. Woodley, of Ferguson, Missouri, came in at 189½ pounds.

The contracted maximum for their cruiserweight bout is 190 pounds. The maximum allowable weight for the cruiserweight division, according to the Association of Boxing Commission’s unified rules, is 200 pounds.

Woodley typically competed at MMA’s welterweight limit of 170 pounds during his successful run in UFC. The 39-year-old boxing novice is still considered a step up in competition for the polarizing Paul (3-0, 3 KOs), who has knocked out YouTube rival Ali Eson Gib, retired NBA point guard Nate Robinson and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, Woodley’s friend, since he began his pro boxing career in January 2020.

The 5-feet-9 Woodley will make his pro boxing debut, though he competed in amateur boxing matches many years ago.

Showtime Sports will stream a ceremonial weigh-in for the Paul-Woodley card on its YouTube channel Saturday from KeyBank State Theater at 5 p.m. EDT.

Paul and Woodley will headline Showtime Pay-Per-View’s five-fight telecast Sunday night from the home arena of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. The pay-per-view portion of the show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. EDT and costs $59.99.

The William Hill sports book lists Paul as slightly less than a 2-1 favorite over Woodley. The shorter, slightly lighter Woodley lost each of his last four UFC bouts before his contract expired with mixed martial arts’ predominant promotional company in the spring.

The official weights for the Paul-Woodley undercard contests are listed below.

Showtime Pay-Per-View; 8 p.m. EDT

Amanda Serrano (40-1-1, 30 KOs), Brooklyn, 124 pounds vs. Yamileth Mercado (18-2, 5 KOs), Chihuahua, Mexico, 124 pounds, 10 rounds for Serrano’s WBC and WBO featherweight titles.

Daniel Dubois (16-1, 15 KOs), London, 238 pounds vs. Joe Cusumano (19-3, 17 KOs), Danville, Virginia, 235½ pounds, 10 rounds, heavyweights.

Ivan Baranchyk (20-2, 13 KOs), Miami, 140.9 pounds vs. Montana Love (15-0-1, 7 KOs), Cleveland, 141 pounds, 10 rounds, welterweights.

Tommy Fury (6-0, 4 KOs), Manchester, England, 179 pounds vs. Anthony Taylor (0-1), Alameda, California, 175 pounds, 4 rounds, cruiserweights.

Non-televised; 7 p.m. EDT

Charles Conwell (15-0, 11 KOs), Cleveland, 153 pounds vs. Juan Carlos Rubio (18-0, 9 KOs), Zapopan, Mexico, 153½ pounds, 10 rounds, junior middleweights.

Showtime just gave Tommy Fury a Face to Face as well.

I don’t think Showtime has ever done Face to Face’s before this card, and they are doing it for the opener as well, wow. I know FOX did these before the pandemic but only for the main event.

If Showrime can pluck Helwani permanently (he has a lot of influence and a built in audience) and they can up their promotion for their regular fights to somewhat resemble this, they might be on to something and I will be happy.

If not, this entire thing was a waste and slap in the face to boxing fans and actual boxers who have been with Showtime forever and haven’t had 1/10th of this.
