i think social media is the problem as well

everyone too concerned about "trending" and "going viral" instead of just enjoying the moment for what it is and being entertained like what we seeing here at Summerslam 2002
Do yall think this started with that infamous post mania Jersey crowd a few years back?

That's a great point

Wrestling is one of the few forms of entertainment made better, with less production value
A lot of people blame PG for WWE's problems but the move to HD, which took place around the same time, has done as much if not more to sterilize WWE than PG has.
It’s not even that they went HD really. Picture quality improved, but they did away with all the design and styling that made shows feel distinct from each other. The lighting and camera work changed too. A show can be filmed in HD and not overproduced.

It may play a role, but back then the company was still held to a high standard so the crowd expected a good show and were hot for it. We didn’t feel like the company was deliberately sabotaging who we liked while force feeding us who we didn’t want back then so it was much easier to enjoy the show. @Theolodius_Black the post WM29 crowd getting so much attention and the year before as well definitely were a turning point.

The year earlier in Miami. I think it was the first year that RAW was in the same town the night after Mania and they hijacked the show by chanting for Daniel Bryan. Vince caving to the audience's whim for DB was the best and worst thing he could've did.

That's an interesting take and I've often wondered this myself

I will say that during this time, the presentation helped you get invested easier, even if you were a "smark"

Something about today's presentation is....off

TL;DR -- The point of my ensuing rambling/rant is that today's product is lazy, harmed by how great their developmental brand is and it lacks cohesion.

Rant - Wrestlemania is the only PPV that gets a special set/pyro. It always kicks ass. That said, every other PPV is basically a Raw/SD with different logos set-wise and a theme song. The entrance set doesn't change. And as someone who made it a point to watch Heat JUST TO SEE PPV ENTRANCE SETS ... I'm like :francis:

SD/Raw barely even do the damn show opening theme that gets people hyped.

I get cutting costs, but having that pyro, the video packages and all that ... it made you feel like you were at something important. It got you hyped. Instead, you're at a slightly longer version of the TV show you've been watching for the last 2-3 weeks, if not longer.

And then you get to the matches, realizing that a lot of times are just rematches from the Raw or SD you saw a couple weeks ago. Or it has that person from NXT you saw rise through the ranks and look like they had the Juice, only to get made to look dumber than Eugene against an inferior opponent.

PPVs used to carry a sense of finality and urgency to them. The matches either closed a chapter or a feud or at the very least, added fuel to the fire, etc. Nowadays they are inconsequential. Take Roman vs. Lashley from Extreme Rules. Watching that match, a part of me was like ... "Are they really gonna give Lashley a try? :lupe:"

Then they retconned it two weeks later on Raw in a rematch that carried much more significant stakes. :why:

Today's product doesn't seem to be written to make sense. You just get an objective and are told to do whatever it takes to reach the objective. That coupled with fans thinking that if they bytch hard enough and revolt hard enough they can actually change shyt ... you get what we have today: a product squandering its embarrassment of riches but somehow stumbling into just enough greatness to keep people hooked, because when it's good, it's GOOD.

I don't think pyro would add to the matches at this point

They could erupt mt vesuvius, but it wouldn't help a bit if they continue with the 2nd part of what you said, rehashed matches you've already seen for fukkING FREE ON RAW/SD!

And the way matches are presented is different as well, hell guys entrance feel different

Maybe rarely have a big fight feel to them like in NXT or other promotions, or what we're watching now

I think another thing we're forgetting about the crowd reaction is how close it was to the Attitude Era. Ratings weren't close to peak 1999 ratings but they were still respectable and people still believed the product could make a comeback.

Now we're almost 20 years from wrestling's biggest boom and the crowd has either grown up with mild crowds or they've given up on wrestling being mainstream again.

You're right. Absolutely spot-on.

When did Cole start sucking? When he started doing Raw?

Cole doesn't suck when he stays in his lane and just calls the action as a straight play-by-play man. He's solid. When Vince gets in his ear or tried to give Cole more "personality" or whatever it was ... that's when it went south.
