Has an outsider ever won the G1? Seems like NJ is :mjpls: when it comes to a non Japanese winning the tourney but maybe it'll change this year. I know AJ, Kenny, and Brock all won IWGP title and I think Jay White but you can't put him in the same sentence. But what about G1?

Kenny won it in 2016, he was considered more of an "outsider" at that point. He's also the only foreigner to ever win it too.

yeah thats what I meant, foreigner.

Oh, there are gaijin (foreigner) that wouldn't be considered outsiders though. On the current roster, a dude like Jay White is basically a New Japan wrestler, he even came out of the dojo as a young lion.

And to be fair, if Brock had decided to partipate in the G-1 for shyts and giggles in the mid 00's, he would've most likely won it.

this g1 needed Omega dropping blassics left n right :mjcry:

I think him being gone for a while is better to be honest. It opens up the field for new people - like this G1 has shown - and it will also mean A LOT when he eventually comes back, even more if AEW takes off as a promotion.

Like, if he's an entrant next year he'll probably be fresher, have nuclear reactions and fresher matchups to have a strong tourney.

plenty of fresh matches for him now and he has barely wrestled all year.

Just finished watching one of my most anticipated matches in ZSJ vs Ospreay. What a match it was. The way that they both flow so smoothly in the ring. ZSJ with these crazy ass holds and both with some amazing reversals plus Ospreay with his aerial abilities. The technical aspects of the match were great plus the back and forth between the two. Went from one having a submission on the other to a reversal into another submission into an attempt at a slam into a reversal into an attempt at a slam to a stalemate. Plus they didn't do much aerial moves so it can't be called flippy shyt. Was a real good match, I enjoyed it.

Naito theme be banging, gotta admit. Got a nice little melody to it. Catching up with last night show. I was :mjlol: at Moxley and Yano with the dvd. Thought he was gonna break it or something. Watching six man tag now. Preview of Cobb vs Shingo that should be good. Shingo look like he one of those guys that means business. Gotta keep an eye out for him in the future.

Omega won in 2016. Basically, unless you're Naito or Goto, you've got a shot if it looks like money can be made off you.
