An example of lifeforms changing traits is dogs. We took them from wolves to all the degenerate states they are in now in only a few thousand years of selective breeding. There are many other documented evolutions, especially in bacteria, viruses.

Dogs and Cats are a great example.

Cats have been domesticated MUCH, MUCH less than dogs. That's why if you take a random housecat and put it outside, even fat fluffy lazy Mr. Button will come back with a dead bird. The little housecats still retain their ambush hunting skills. A lot of house dogs would be food in the woods because they don't really have the hunting skills needed to get food, even in packs.

Imagine a pack of pit bulls. Loud, muscular azz dogs would struggle to catch rabbits and squirrels because they'd see them coming from a mile away. Rottweilers? Not a chance. Squirrel would be up that tree in seconds. Meanwhile a fluffy housecat can catch a fukking BIRD that can fly away simply because it still knows how to hunt like lions, tigers etc.

Dogs can't compete with bigger animals like bears, wolves etc. A wild pig or boar would be a challenge for 95% of dogs with those tusks. We picked the dogs that were most responsive to food and bred them. The ones that would do whatever we asked if we gave them some snacks. That's why even the most gangsta dog will be perfectly obedient if you drop some food for him. Cats can't be bothered to do shyt.

It's not hard to imagine. Take the movement of Africa away from South America due to plate tectonics, for example. They are moving away from each other at a rate of ~3 cm./yr.

They are currently 7,895 km. away from one another.

If we assume the rate of movement is uniform, how long did it take for the landmasses to move to their current positions after they separated from one another?
