The Truth
You hit the nail on the head dude. People forgetting Joshua had him out first, so he could have had him again but AJ didn't compose himself, that KD fukked him up mentally I think. I don't think he expected it, and they his trainer should have really coached him through into the fight. He should have stuck behind the jab, gone to the body, but the seocn KD zapped his energy and Ruiz knew he could take him out with a burst as AJ wasn't recovering. It was disappointing to me man, I expected more from him..
I feel you

Its boxing, shyt happens. This is REAL boxing... the disappointment will be if AJ doesn’t learn from this and recover in the rematch. Dude seemed gas and unfocused and I honestly think he had some personal shyt going on because he was on the radio with bloody knuckles from punching walls and shyt earlier in the year.

Ruiz was just too dangerous of a fighter. I knew he was going to win as soon as EVERYBODY kept doubting him because of his physique. Ive seen big boy rumble and dude has the perfect style for most big heavyweights these days... the ones that can’t box much

AJ can box but not like Ruiz. He’s decent, better boxer than Wilder, but Ruiz can legit throw hands in a phonebooth. Most big fighters these days aren’t technically sound, Ruiz is technically sound with speed and power... recipe for disaster if you sleep on him like most fighters do

But yeah, ultimately he fukked himself going for the kill after the Knockdown. AJ was grtting him with some good clean shots before then too but he just wasn’t patient. Blew his load and was on wobbly legs ever since.

In hindsight, Ruiz seems like a tough matchup for him as many in the thread have said. But I also thought Joshua, with a 82”-74” reach advantage, and fighting a dude you know wants to press, might be able to just stay on the outside and break him down off the jab.

Maybe he still can?

I guess we’ll find out in the rematch. :yeshrug:
His coach told him to do that after I think the 4th or maybe as early as the 2nd, but he tried to finish too early and got clipped, rather than taking his time. Let's see if he learns his lesson. I dunno though man, those 4KDs to me, imo are tough to come back from... def hard to see how this whole shyt plays out from here. Even if he beats Ruiz, I need to see a significant uplift in his skillset and ability to pace himself, implement gameplans etc... he has been 1 dimensional before this, can he now add more dimensions? I dunno..

Eddie Hearn A+ fighter lost to Al Haymon C- fighter. :heh:

Now Al Haymon have all of the leverage with the Joshua vs Wilder fight. :dead:

Wilder still needs to do his part and beat Ortiz/Fury.

It would be big ,but not as big as it once was

Joshua’s perceived invincibility (to casuals) is gone .Cant get that back. Doesn’t affect Fury that much because that domestic money will always be there for a British mega fight

Definitely hurts wilder-joshua tho

I could not disagree more.

Marquez put Manny to sleep and 4 million people still watched him get washed by Floyd.

Neither Wilder or Joshua are close to Floyd or Manny’s level popularity-wise. But I think that’s why this can work to their advantage. The number of casuals who are gonna be talking about this fight on Monday is gonna be ridiculous. That said, they’re already calling Ruiz “Butterbean”; a decisive win by Joshua in the rematch and he can blame his L on not taking his opponent serious and every will forget the Ruiz loss happened. Plus there are bound to be MORE fans watching the rematch to see if the first fight was a fluke.

On the flip side, Wilder now has two chances, against Ortiz and Fury, to improve his bargaining position and position himself as the top dog in the division. If both he and Joshua can impress? The fight is still probably one of the 2 or 3 biggest money fights in the sport, easy. The storylines are just a little different.
