"Owen Gregory Stewart’s trip ended violently on Thursday, October 19, in one of the streets of Marbell, in the center of Cartagena.

At the age of 59 and only a few days in Colombia, the American citizen was attacked by two thieves who tried to strip him of all his belongings, including a conspicuous gold chain he wore around his neck. .

According to what was recorded by the security cameras of the sector, Owen resisted with all his strength to take the chain from him and started to run away, a detail that made the hitmen desperate, who opened fire against the tourist.

According to preliminary information from the authorities, the bullet wounds injured the head and chest of Stewart, a black-skinned American citizen who traveled to the country for tourist reasons.

After the struggle and the shots that left him seriously injured, Owen was transferred to the Torices Clinic in Cartagena, but he died after about six hours in critical condition and emergency surgery that failed to improve his health.

“The patient was admitted to the Clinic with a gunshot wound to the head and chest. Mr. Gregory Stewart died at the San José de Torices Clinic at the age of 59,” reported Álvaro Cruz, director of the Regulatory Center for Urgencies and Emergencies of Cartagena.

Even though the cameras fully recorded the theft in the neighborhood of Marbell, the authorities have not yet identified the location of the two thieves responsible for the crime.

However, the Cartagena Metropolitan Police assured that they have found one of the motorcycles involved in the theft.

“We are looking for videos, conducting interviews and collecting all the necessary background information and evidence to identify those responsible for this act that caused harm to this person,” confirmed Colonel José Archila, deputy commander of Cartagena Metropolitan Police.

Currently, it is known that the American citizen arrived in Cartagena just two days ago and is staying in one of the hotels in the area. According to his travel itineraries, Owen only intended to spend about three more days in Bolívar

In developing countries, especially as a Passport Bro in Latin America, no bling, no drip, and if they confront you to rob you give it up quickly. The point is not to go down there and get killed.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Solo traveled to nearly a dozen countries in Latin America(Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, PR)

I don’t do resorts and I’m not afraid to go out of tourist areas.

I leave my IPhone 13 at wherever I’m staying and go outside with my old android

Travel with a money belt if Im moving around in the streets

Dress like a local. I’m a darker complexion breh and when I’m in panama or Colombia you couldn’t tell me from a local. Faded cargo pants, ball cap, plain t shirt and some adidas shoes. Only time you can point me out as an American is when I step out at night.

Knowing conversational Spanish goes a long way, otherwise you will be taken advantage of or be lost in the sauce

Make local connects…bumble and Instagram are great for this.
fukk that, I wear flip flops.

It don’t matter what you wear, as soon as you start talking they gonna know you not from there.

Thats why I shut the hell up if I ain’t spoken to

The problem with Americans traveling abroad is they feel superior and entitled and they think everywhere is the same. They automatically think you got money simply by you being there to begin with.
