IIRC there's no early release when it comes to Fed time, and you have to do a minimum of 85% with good behavior.
He was sentenced in 2008 to 30 years, and got out in 2024, which isn't anywhere near 85%, as 85% of 30 years would be 25.5 years. If he's indeed a federal informant, that info can be withheld, but if he was a cooperator, it would have come out.
Something ain't adding up to how he served ~16 years of a 30 year sentence. I saw a judge "significantly reduced his sentence by nearly 3 years" but even then, the math isn't adding up
However, the word of an informant isn't anywhere close to enough to land someone in prison, especially if said informant doesn't testify. However, it can obviously assist authorities in their investigation.
