For that to happen he needed better artists, he had that with Banks, Buck & Game. His ego got in the way. He was the only successful one besides Game.
:jbhmm: Where did his ego get in the way though.

He wanted unity for sure. But that's how he grew up.

He pushed banks to do Karma which is probably his biggest record.

He gave yayo so seductive.

Game has a career cause of 50. People who hated 50 sided with game and stuck with him to this day.

Game problems came from game being a snake
Buck problems always came from buck talking shyt
Banks problem is more personal. He said multiple times he wanted banks to be big but banks didn't put in the work.

I really don't know, but something must've happened behind the scenes when it came to the artists not being pushed or something. Game got the biggest pushed cause of him being a Aftermath artist first.

You make a lot of great points and I agree with almost all of them. And Game absolutely helped give Game his career. It's very obvious what hooks 50 wrote on The Documentary, and How We Do and Hate It or Love It both really helped propel that album; 50's presence on each song was just as big as Game's.

I just wanted to address the 2 sentences I highlighted in bold, though. I still think Banks' biggest records are either On Fire or So Fly. His 1st album was bigger than the 2nd album, and I know YouTube views don't paint the entire picture, but I just checked and they both have more views than Karma. Funny enough, Hands Up has about twice as many views as On Fire or I'm So Fly, but for some reason that didn't feel like a big song at the time. I remember that 2nd album having so many single problems. They had that one single called My House produced by Timbo and it fell so flat that I don't even think it ended up as an album cut on Rotten Apple.

Anyways, does Banks even have a problem? That's been the one thing that always trips me out when 50 and others talk about his stardom, or lack there of. It seemed clear to me ever since the bonus DVD that came with GRODT that Banks never wanted to be a star. He was content being a lyricist and wanted respect in that lane. Banks never had the style to blow up. It's amazing he was able to make hooks as catchy as he did, and if anything, I think Banks greatly overachieved in terms of popularity. Even his small comeback with Beamer Benz Bentley/HFM 2 and the features on Kanye's GOOD Friday series are things I never expected to happen.

The biggest mistake Banks made is in the last 10 years not linking with a couple dedicated producers and making at least 1 or 2 focused albums instead of random mixtapes that he executive produces himself. He could have a solid lane on the indie scene, making paper from vinyl, like you see from Roc Marci, Griselda, Ka, Mach, Spesh, Flee Lord, etc.

I think G Unit did pretty well all things considered, at least the core members. How many other groups (with a main star) can say they did what G Unit did?

Dre must've seen some big potential with Game in hindsight, because we all know he brought 50 in to help finish the album. But the thing is, Dre never did that with any of the artists he signed to Aftermath over the years. For some reason he did that final push to help get Game out there.

I think it's half what @GetRichOrDieTryin said on the 50 push, and half Aftermath. Because even though all the 1st wave G-Unit albums had dope production, Banks, Buck, and Yayo couldn't compete with Game's production at all. He had a handful of Dre beats, as well as Kanye, Just Blaze, Timbo, Hi-Tek, Havoc, Alchemist, Buckwild, Cool & Dre, Focus...

Absolutely ridiculous production line-up. :wow:

He saw Game as a lyricist, just like he saw that in Eminem. I mean, he was the best lyricist in G-Unit right next to Lloyd Banks. Game had more charisma and the personality to succeed. Banks did have that in the beginning in his career but fell flat. You don't get all those top notch producers for a debut album for nothing. As much a 50 helped with the hit singles, there's other songs on there that are just as potent.

Yep. 50 may have laces Game with Hate It Or Love It and How We Do, but he had nothing to do with Start From Scratch, Put You On The Game, Runnin, or Like Father Like Son. There’s a lot of other gems on there

One of my favorite songs on that album wasn't even the hit records, it was the Faith Evans joint produced by Havoc. I'm not always a fan of hit records, sometimes it's the album cuts that could be just as good or better.

I meant the problem is more so on 50s end. 50 wanted banks to be someone he isn't.

Banks is happy where he is. Ofc as a fan (who puts banks in his top 5 favorite rappers) I want banks to be known and famous cause he deserves it.

I don't even know if it's him being lazy tbh. He dropped 3 amazing tapes (hh2, FNO, hh3) but we saw like one visual. He never capitalized on anything. Loyal fans will stick around.. but I guess banks just doesn't care about those things. He's probably still eating off of g unit money.

Game was and still is a great rapper. Listen to documentary and doctors advocate back to back.

Lyrics are all great. The only difference missing (which 50 filled in) was that documentary had actual songs with structure and hooks where as DA is moreso sample hooks or just basic thingsffor the most part

That and west coast, probably what made Dre put in more effort. They get along really well too
