shyt, I remember the first time I ever heard him

this was back before I had a car, me and my homie had to take an hour long bus ride to get to our college town. At the bus stop, he's talking about the Weeknd and how I gotta listen to his tape or whatever, I was like aight bet, I'll listen to it on the bus

that whole one hour bus ride, I replayed High for This over and over...couldn't even get to the next song :wow: downloaded the full tape later that night and I was a stan ever since

Listening now to the OG version, which has a more 'grittier' sound than the Trilogy version (plus it has the Aaliyah sample on "What You Need") ...... And I continue to ask myself....... How? How can complete darkness be so beautiful :mjweekndcry:? I don't think that some (casuals) fully grasp just how RAW this album is, which is why they constantly ask & clamor for an exact duplicate of this. You have to be in a really dark place to make something like this. It makes for an amazing listen as a fan because we're experiencing the artist & their music at its most honest moment, but it's not sustainable... We've seen many of the greats before whom were also 'highly introspective' eventually self-destruct.

I'm just happy that I experienced this album because I'm always highly skeptical of a new artist initially, but XO became everything I believed in when I heard first heard "Loft Music" in 2011.

This book is far from finished, but its chapters couldn't have had a better start to it than it had with HOB's. A complete cohesive body of work.

You can download it from the link below:

The Weeknd - House Of Balloons | Download & Listen [New Mixtape]

I know most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference in the Trilogy's HOBs and this one outside of "What You Need" and perhaps "Wicked Games", but I noticed it right away when I copped the Trilogy - everything sounds 'cleaner' on the Trilogy and songs like "The Party & After Party" even sound lower in volume. I also listened to the original a 1,000 times prior, so that could be a factor in the subtle differences that I picked up between the two :observing:.

So tomorrow marks 5 years since House of Balloons was released, 21st March 2011.

To this day it's still :wow: and I don't think it's been matched by anyone, including The Weeknd. I was and still am fascinated by the sound and feel of the mixtape. I remember when it was out I found the artwork interesting, the guys name and the mystery behind him, then I listened to the tape...

That beat switch on House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls :wow: :lawd: :whoo:

Wicked Games :banderas:

The Knowing, what a closer :blessed: :mjcry:

Not a weak track on the mixtape, I'll be giving it a few spins tonight :ohlawd:

The freakiest things that ever happened in my entire life were motivated by this mixtape. I'm so so so sincere, That whole summer/fall was alcohol, threesomes, partying, weekend trips with 2-3 girls. We'd get faded, throw House of balloons on, and by the time loft music came on I was inside of someone or watching them go at each other. That fukkery of that whole stretch from summer 2011- summer 2012 will be the stuff I daydream about as an old man.
And young Abel was the soundtrack.

I remember when I first bumped this that beat switch on going into glass table girls rattling the trunk of my 93 Honda :ahh:

I'm not really feeling his new stuff. But his mystic and aura he had when this came out was crazy sitting back smoking bumping them tapes :banderas: Abel needs to restore the feeling
