because i'm not very creative, not very driven, and still to this day not sure what my passion really is. :manny:

i'm much closer to on my way out though

-started building my own house
-investing in a few other properties

hoping to use this all as an escape plan and join my family in the construction business :lupe:

Breh you're building your own house ?! :wow:

how old were u when u got ur first one :lupe:

breh I'm not passionate about what I do (Working in the family business) however I am driven because I know when I work harder, I make more money and it allows me to do this I like :lupe:

I don't think ill ever really be passionate about anything work wise tbh :ld: my lifestyle and relationships drive me more.

is the lifestyle you can afford not a motivating factor :lupe: as well as things you like to do like travelling

family business is the way to go. I left my corporate job and never looked back, although annoying sometimes nothing beats working for yourself and the family :lupe:

i bought my first home (condo in manhattan) right after i got engaged in 2007. put the deposit on a new construction building down and closed in beginning of 2008 when they finished. sold that in beginning of this year 2013 and closed on a house in burbs around same time. really just bought the land because the house was a complete piece of shyt but in a great neighborhood. knocked the house down end of this summer when i finally got my demo permits. i am getting my new building permits either today or tomorrow and will start digging foundation next week. in the mean time i've been living w family in nj in a great neighborhood but i'm at my wits end as far personal space goes so i may be moving back into manhattan into my buddy's apt he owns but is never there. then hopefully finishing my house in time for my daughter to be in for school in fall 2014. obviously this decision to build my house from scratch has a lot to do w the businesses my family is involved w.

i find that i only work hard when i'm incentivised accordingly. when we were busy here i put in 60 hour weeks and barely had time to leave my desk to get lunch, then was out 3 nights a week past midnight w clients and never broke a sweat about it. at the time i was paid better too so i'm sure that has something to do w it. now i work closer to 50 hours a week, i'm not as busy when i'm here and i never go out any more. i have a hard time giving a shyt about much here these days. i'm surprised i'm still employed here tbh. but the money and benefits are still very decent so that's probably why i also haven't been so motivated to do anything about being unhappy here. it certianly enables me to do things like building my own house.

i think you're right. although everyone in my family employed by the business seem to bicker constantly at the end of the day they all seem much more satisfied w their overall lives than i am. and they've all managed to find a way to make their own individual moves w things tied to the business. i'm hoping the same for myself.

what line of business is your fam in and what type of corp gig did you leave?

She obviously ain't have her shyt where it needed to be mentally. She had a decent crib, made a decent living and all, but I don't think she was all there :ld:.

She is one of the reasons why I gave my Facebook page that work my Sophmore year in college :rip:. The only visual trace of me left on the internet is my pics in the Men of the Coli thread and I doubt she knows about this place.....I hope :lupe:

Wow, very interesting and inspiring, :salute:

I'm in the long process of buying my second house (offer now accepted) and found buyers for my first, just wanted somewhere bigger and better as I'm settling down with my S.O etc. I live in Berlin though, so I don't think it's as easy over here to build my own, you guys are lucky over there.

I'm into real estate too, but my dad taught me that, as well as our family business he has houses that he rents out (he bought for cheap before the crash) after this house my next buy will be a buy to let (either houses near university for students or a normal buy to let). Still deciding. Oh and I'm buying an investment piece in London however that'll be a cash buy using savings. I might live in that or rent it out as the goal is to move from Berlin to London after I get married.

Well done and good luck :salute:

what type of corp gig did you leave?

I did Econ + Maths at university so when I first graduated I worked in Equity Capital Markets for a boutique private bank for only a year, hated it, due to my degree all my class mates were going into either banking, trading, management consulting, working at hedge fund or doing business analysis for a retail company or in oil and gas and accounting. I wasn't interested after a while, I hated it all, hated hours, hated the lifestyle etc. I suffered from burn out.

My dad wanted me to carry on business originally but I tried to be stubborn, I took a sabbatical from work to try it out and I never went back. Been working for family since.

what line of business is your fam in ?

We own retail shops importing food and skin care products from Africa (we now have 3 shops here in Berlin) and one still in London that my uncle manages. We also have 2 e-commerce sites too, so it's busy and my day is varied. Some days like today I'm handling the sites, other day's I'm in the shop managing. My main thing I bring is my financial expertise and handling the business sides of things (the numbers, charts, taxes, cash flow, emplyee salaries etc) my dad's more practical things.

My dad was never a specialist so he just decided to try his hand at many things and the retail shops as well as the sites and the buy to let houses turned out to be our money makers.
