Shaqir O'Neal, Shaq's son, announces commitment to Texas Southern

Shaqir O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal's youngest son, is committed to Texas Southern, he announced on Instagram on Friday.

During an interview with Overtime, O'Neal, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, said he committed to the Tigers to "change the narrative" on historically Black colleges and universities.

Texas Southern is led by Johnny Jones, who was an assistant under Dale Brown when Shaquille O'Neal played for the Tigers.

Ok I was wondering the TSU connection. But I was very pleased to see him pick TSU instead of the usual two or three choices among the so-called "elite" HBCU's. So many good Black schools out there for our young people to choose from, I just want to see as many of them as possible get some spotlight. Would lead to another resurgence in general admissions at our schools the way A Different World did for so many in the 90's.

And I don't know what the hell I'm thinking, from what I understand Shaq is well known in the Third Ward so he's familiar with the school and the area. They say when he was in HS here in San Tone he used to go out to Houston to hoop at MacGregor Park.

RB Eden James, son of NFL great Edgerrin James, commits to Howard

Howard picked up a commitment from what could end up being the HBCU's highest-ranked signee in the modern recruiting era on Monday night as three-star running back Eden James announced that he plans to play for the Bison. Howard, who 247Sports ranks as the nation's No. 92 running back in the class of 2022, is the son of NFL great and four-time Pro Bowl selection Edgerrin James. He burst onto the national recruiting scene back in late August when he ran for 297 yards and two touchdowns in Port St. Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast's shocking upset of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage.

"There are many reasons as to why I chose Howard," James told 247Sports in a message. "But one of the main reasons as to why I chose them is because of the opportunities the DMV area presents and the amount of consistent interest they have shown me from the jump."

The Bison are currently coached by former Power 5 assistant Larry Scott, who has plenty of ties to the Sunshine State having played at USF and worked at both Miami and Florida. Scott told 247Sports' direct or recruiting Steve Wiltfong last year that he was hoping to attract more high-profile recruits to Howard, especially after the basketball program secured the services of blue-chip big man Makur Maker for a season. And while James might not have four-stars next to his name, he was hearing from schools like Miami (where his father went to school), Indiana and Wake Forest at different points during the recruiting process

You called it. And now that the HBCU schools are playing in nationally televised games, that removed the last barrier. These kids want to play on tv, so that scouts can see them. They have Hoop Dreams/NFL dreams too, but they don't have the added pressure of trying to make it to set their families up.

Don't let these schools start sending guys to the pros, either. Recruits would have some tough decisions. Football coach is gonna fukk around and schedule recruiting trips during Howard Homecoming.....it's a wrap after that.
