This. everyone that has an iPhone and Apple music was complaing and trying to get their hands on the album. From snoop to your average twitter follower. His streams would've increased of he did. He most definately would've sold like drake, Kendrick or cole
I have tidal and I'm still gonna buy it Friday .

People keep saying Hov would have gone platinum based on his previous album sales, how do we know thIs ?.....

1.Are non-black people going to purchase a Jay-Z album that has a "pro-black"(to some people) message?

2.Are hip hop heads going to buy this album with the change in content and lack of club bangers/radio hits?

3.most rap/hip hop consumers download music for free. How many of those people accounted for the 1 million free downloads ?

Artist don't stay on top forever. Also, based on the content, this isn't a typical Jay-z release. What happens when Sony/Drake does the same gimmick and he has 15 platimun alums, will hip hop heads complain ?.......I have no problem with Jay-z selling a million albums to Sprint,Samsung,or whoever.I just don't believe the million should officially count towards a platinum plaque.

JayZ album is already Plat....period. Those million albums have reached a million subscribers and that's what those million subscribers are paying monthly for, a service or perk another company can't provide. RIAA doesnt give a fukk how the units are moved, as long as they can be shown their moved.

Jay accomplished that with his release.

Jay with this move is trying to show nikkas, you can keep rapping cause you think the money you seeing is worth celebrating, cause you nikkas is basically moving packs or a few kilos. This nikka Jay showing you the art of moving metric tons...

The fact is Jay sold records in the Physical era and sold a lot. People want to be mad at the Samsung and Sprint deals yet we are suppose to accept all these "Streaming Plats"?. Jay has a resume of consistent Plats since the 90's where people went out and actually brought the copies. I question these new dudes going Plat way more than Jay because he has a proven body of work. Nobody can tell me this album isn't going Plat. It will do 400-500K physical next week for sure. But damn 17 Platinum albums, 13 solo. Jay has a chance to have 20 Platinum albums. I don't think this record will ever be broken. This dude was going Platinum when I was a teenager and now I'm a grown man and he's still going Platinum. Jay is hot no matter when he drops. He just came off a 4 year break too. Jay's first week numbers will be just as much as K Dot's, Drake's or Cole and he came out several decades before them. This is what a Legendary Iconic Career looks like.

That's not who it works.

Sales only count when the consumer deliberately seeks out the album.

Sprint bought the albums and said 'if you want it you have to take the following steps.'

1 million people took the necessary steps to actually acquire the album.

They wanted it.

FOR FREE

big difference.

@momma they gave it away for free.
