It's unfortunate that Willow likely taking the L after what she's been thru but not she if there's another option after setting up a feud with Mercedes and getting the tbs title involved. Can't have all the hype of Mercedes to have her lose her first match. Question is what type of finish they go with that's best. Can't be a burial. A dirty finish may hurt Mercedes credibility and a clean one hurts Willow.

If the rankings don't matter for the midcard titles........Then this makes no sense:

They could have hotshotted Mone over Toni twice but I haven't seen a company book like that before. Maybe it works but Toni's just hitting a groove with this run and she has a long term story built with Mariah May. And having Mone lose a hypothetical title match here doesn't do her favors either.

And it's not that the rankings don't matter I don't think. It's that a decorated champion like Mone or Edge can call their shot and TK will then approve it if he feels like it makes sense. Kayfabe obviously lol.

I feel like they should cut the rankings down to 3 if they gonna use them and def only for main titles. Think they once a month, which is good. Only those three can be contenders until a new person earns a spot.

An interference (possibly from former champ Julia Hart & Skye Blu) is a logical, time-tested finish that would protect both Willow & Mercedes.
Willow and Mercedes can even unite to run off the heels if Tony Khan wants to give the brehettes a triumphant moment afterwards.

People will complain when non-finishes are overused (like Dusty Rhodes ODing on them when he booked Nitro), but they're a useful tool when used properly and in moderation. Also, when done correctly, a non-finish can be used to shift or advance a storyline. For example, an interference in this case could lead to a Willow/Mercedes tag team, a triple threat match with Julia Hart, or a steel cage rematch to prevent further outside interference.

Oh I know how it works. But my mind goes back to the draw between Omega vs Bryan and Hangman vs Bryan(?) and people complaining about those matches. And those were on free TV.

You're right. I just don't see how you debut Mone after what feels like forever in a dq.

Oh I know how it works. But my mind goes back to the draw between Omega vs Bryan and Hangman vs Bryan(?) and people complaining about those matches. And those were on free TV.

Then it seems like Tony Khan is in a pickle. Either he stops the momentum of one of the two most important women in the TBS division, or he upsets a few people by following the rules of wrestling.
What do you think Tony should do?

It can work. Remember, AEW legend Edge's Adam Copeland's debut match ended in a count out:



Granted, it was due to Edge almost paralyzing a Puerto Rican, but there was no big finishing move or huge moment of triumph. People were upset in the moment, but 50 years later, Copeland is one of the biggest stars on the AEW roster.
Back to Willow & Mercedes, if Tony Khan writes a non-finish in a logical way that continues the story, then people will be fine.
