Some good points raised in this video. Seems like Kownacki turned down $7M to fight Joshua. A fight he probably would have lost but loosing to AJ for $7M is a lot better than loosing to Helenius for a few $100g's.

I put a post in his fight thread, to me he turned it down for two reasons
1. He was so out of shape he wouldn’t have lasted two rounds without passing out, talking 310.
2. He was with Big Baby on the illegal side and wouldn’t have passed a drug test. He hasn’t looked the same since Big Baby failed his test.

hope that was a bad night for him rather than his level, as I do find his style entertaining in the fights I've seen. .

He's a zombie come forward fighter that overwhelmed people with his relentless attack. With a good chin that's sustainable cause shots didn't stop him from pressuring forward. With no chin that style is a wrap. If people with power can stop him in his tracks he way Helenius did that changes the whole calculus cause Kownacki has no plan B.

He went in on PBC at the end :picard:
I said it several times already, but it's obvious at this point that decisions are made in the interest of PBC and not the individual fighter
$150K to headline a card on Fox sounds crazy. To do that after turning down getting $7mil on another platform is just malpractice.
Fox needed a date filled tho, they ain't paying $60mil+ a year for nothing :manny:

He may not be able to hang at the elite level, still think there's some entertaining fights for him out there though, even if it's a step or 2 below. His fight with Martin ended up being really dope, he'd probably bring value in a lot of fights even though he has flaws, just cause of the style. Don't mean main eventing but would be interested to see him in some nice match ups on undercards still.

I mean didn't Kownacki say he wasn't ready for a Joshua fight? Why is everyone blaming PBC for NOT forcing him to do something he didn't feel he was ready for? :mjtf:

Man it wasn't like he was being asked to take a fight on two weeks notice. This is a chance at 3 belts and life changing money. Yea he might not have initially been ready, but for THAT amount, you GET your ass ready :russ:

FOX's Viewership For Kownacki-Helenius Peaked At 1,681,000
By Keith Idec

Published On Wed Mar 11, 2020, 02:58 PM EDT

The viewership for FOX’s broadcast of Adam Kownacki’s first defeat was almost as high as the network’s audience for Kownacki’s fan-friendly slugfest with Chris Arreola.

Figures released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research showed viewership for Kownacki’s fourth-round, technical-knockout defeat to Robert Helenius on Saturday night peaked at 1,681,000. The average audience for their short heavyweight bout, the main event of a tripleheader, was 1,675,000.

Helenius knocked down the heavily favored Kownacki with a right-left combination 30 seconds into the fourth round at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Polish-born Kownacki’s home borough. Kownacki got back to his feet by the time referee David Fields’ count reached four, but Helenius unloaded more than 30 punches on a mostly defenseless Kownacki, who was stopped while still standing at 1:08 of the fourth round.

His surprising loss knocked Kownacki off his path toward a title shot. The 30-year-old Kownacki (20-1, 15 KOs) hopes Helenius (30-3, 19 KOs) gives him an immediate rematch, but the 36-year-old Finnish fighter isn’t contractually obligated to do so.

Kowancki’s previous performance on FOX – a 12-round, unanimous-decision victory over Arreola on August 3 at Barclays Center – attracted a peak audience of 1,769,000 and an average audience of 1,727,000.

FOX’s three-bout broadcast Saturday night averaged 1,443,000 viewers overall. Combined with FOX Deportes’ live telecast, a total average of 1,533,000 viewers watched the entire show, which lasted two hours and 53 minutes.

In the opening bout Saturday night, Cuban heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez (15-0, 11 KOs, 1 NC) convincingly out-boxed Philadelphia’s Joey Dawejko (20-8-4, 11 KOs) on his way to winning a 10-round unanimous decision.

In the second fight FOX aired, Nigerian heavyweight prospect Efe Ajagba (13-0, 11 KOs) beat Romanian veteran Razvan Cojanu (17-7, 9 KOs) by ninth-round TKO. Ajagba knocked down Cojanu twice – once apiece in the eighth and ninth rounds – before referee Ron Lipton halted the action at 2:46 of the ninth round.

Ajagba was way ahead on points – 80-71, 79-72 and 79-72 – entering the ninth round.
