An unsophisticated guy (criminal) from Houston, who doesn't speak Spanish, with a lot of cash, is not going to be good in Mexico, on the run. You would need to set up bank accounts, stay low profile, and keep moving, or establish yourself somewhere. Social media, gone, cell phone gone, family/friends contact, gone. He will be extradited, best case scenario, rather than languishing in a desolate prison in Mexico. Not a good fate.
