Black folks, we need to talk...

When I took AP Gov my teacher talked to us about dog-butt theory. Its the idea that voters are like sled dogs, if you're not the lead dog the view never changes so youre just seeing the ass of the dog in front of you. A lot of people voted for Biden in 2020 because the Trunp years were a dumpster fire but then their lives didn't improve, for many they got tougher and that is the danger we face. Those brehs didnt turn out because they didnt think the view was going to change

Matt Gaetz is a despicable human being, but most liberals would agree with him on more things than they think. He is big on anti-corruption and taking money out of politics. He has also pointed out some of the damage that the US's military exploits have caused in places around the world including Africa and Latina America (the latter if I'm remembering correctly).

This is in no way to say that he is qualified to be AG, but he talks about this stuff enough to the point where I legitimately believe he thinks these are issues.

Lowkey, especially when it comes to economic populism, there is some overlap between the ideologies of liberals and Repubs like Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, etc.

This is the problem with a lot of Dem nominees. They try to thread the needle and end up losing people on both sides.

She should have just said, no I’m not throwing trans community under the bus to appease bigots.

Yes, we have an immigration issue, but migrants are not animals. These are human beings and we aught to treat them as such.

Or take the opposite stance if that’s how she felt. But project strength and conviction.

The trans issue was a problem that could have been managed better. I don't think it's trying to appease both sides to acknowledge someone else's position. Or even embrace it. Most people don't hate trans people, but they are afraid and biased or whatever, let them have their fear. Show you understand it. You can't expect people to have the same rigid idealogical views across a country, a city, or even a neighborhood.

we may think those trans ads are bullshyt, and political optics, and to some degree they are, but they are reaching millions of potential voters. You need to counter the message, or lose the conversation entirely.

“Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” Seth Moulton, a Democratic representative from Massachusetts, told The Times last week. “I have two little girls; I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.”

“Trump has fundamentally changed the way that we campaign and govern in America,” said Rebecca Katz, the chief strategist for the successful Senate campaigns of Gallego and, before him, John Fetterman, the Pennsylvania Democrat. She told me that a candidate’s ability to communicate with voters on their own terms, in relatable language, is crucially important. And that skill and sensibility have nothing to do with how much political experience the person has.
