I thought she ran a good campaign overall. The main problem, though, was targeting Republicans, specifically the "Never Trump" crowd. While this group got a lot of media attention thanks to figures like Liz Cheney and other Republicans for opposing Trump, they were never a sizable demographic likely to cross party lines for a Democrat. The "Never Trump" stance has always seemed more ideological than action-oriented, which means they will always remain loyal to the party line, even if they personally disagree with Trump. Engaging with figures like the Cheney's only weakened her campaign's integrity, not just morally, but strategically, since Cheney herself often voted in line with Trump. I don't think that caused her to lose, but it was a misstep.

We all thought they were looking at the demographics of 2024 being the same as 2020 and also wins made since 2020. Democrats come out of this not knowing what they need to be. That's the discouraging thing.

Now they can run in 2028 and its likely a Dem will win because the country will do another hard turn and get exhausted from Trump.

Whitmer is done though. Dems aren't going to risk running another woman. Best she can hope for is to be selected VP.
