That feels like lazy logic that was disproven long ago. If abortion is codified legally why would any woman or democrat say "I can rest now." There is no going back to the old status quo. It's clear republicans will not stop until they eliminate abortion. We'd simply go from legal challenges to Roe to legal challenges to a federal abortion law. Which once again means legal battles over judges and stacking specific courts in order to get the perfect case back to the Supreme Court before Thomas and Alito retire or die.

Flip this argument around: did republicans stop fighting once Roe died? No. They got even more extreme, and went even further. The activism wing didn't declare victory and go quietly into the night...instead they immediately started talking about national abortion bans for the future and state bans for the present.

But yeah, this coalition isn’t that strong. Maybe people become single issue voters on this, but what if a GOP candidate says they support all the other crazy shyt but are pro abortion? Again, I genuinely believe most of these politicians are not earnest, but I do hope I am wrong. I also hope that this is a gateway to people learning and leaning into more pro-poverty policies.

My girl is Mexican, obviously her fam isn't from PR and they're just as mad. I think this was simply a dam breaking moment where you can only get away with so much shyt before something knocks the wall down and everything flows out. Trump has been calling immigrants animals for months. He keeps making odd, Nazi-like comments about bloodlines and genetics. So none of this is new.

I will bet anything that tomorrow he's going to either claim he didn't hear the joke, claim it wasn't offensive, or say (legal) Hispanics want to close the border and so it doesn't matter. He won't apologize. I'm not sure he's ever apologized for anything as a political figure. More importantly....his personality ensures he can't do that because it shows weakness. He's gonna go on offense and depending on how the media poses questions, he can make this shyt even worse for himself.
