IndeedKind of off-topic, but the bolded reminds me of a sentiment I've heard throughout my life which basically complains about the absence of leaders like Malcolm X, MLK, Huey Newton, etc. and how that's the reason we're stuck with the status quo we have right now. And while I understand the sentiment, it's always bothered me, but I couldn't put my finger on why it bothered me until relatively recently.
That sentiment is basically a form of the great man theory. If we are going to confront all of the challenges that we face and not get folded by them, it's going to require all of us, require the average person, to give a shyt and become informed and engaged with what's going on in the world around them. We can't keep waiting around for someone to save us.
We have to start imagining what better looks like instead of accepting what these people tell us what better is.
That’s not being anti leadership, and I see value in that. My thing is we need to stop waiting and depending on politicians when they have no incentives to do anything. It’s ass backwards.
