Tbh. It's always been easier to fear monger about the border and immigrants to people far away from it.
I grew up 60 mi north of the Mexico border.
It's much harder to sell people that immigrants are the boogeymen when they're your actual neighbors and members of your community.

Not only is he more popular but the other republicans running against him can’t go too hard on him at primaries or they sink their chances of a future presidency
